I've owned a 1984 mini mayfair for 6 years now, and she has evolved into a cooper look-a-like complete with 1275 engine and cooper alloys, etc - but she hasn't been used for a year or so due to shiny red TVR!

This weekend I bought a new bmw mini which I've fallen in love with.

So, would you acknowledge a new mini? Has any-one seen any on any of the mini runs, ie london to brighton? or, (gulp,) will I be snubbed?!

I'll flash at anyone!!!!ooh err Mrs!

I have an 1986 Mini and wave at ALL minis, not all BMW Mini (sorry MINI ) drivers understand & wave back - I've been "invited" for Nescafe a couple of times (fuers!)

Isn't a BMW Mini a contradiction in terms?

All depends to be honest I think.

You get some MINI owners who look down their noses at you (especially Cooper S drivers) and that I cant stand. But on the other hand you do get some MINI owners that flash so I will flash back.

On the whole though I dont think I would because I dont see the same sort of 'tribe' thing that you get with the classic Minis.

Seen plenty on the Riviera Run (4 days to go!), but I personally don't think it's right.
Would a new Beetle fit in at a Bug jam? I don't believe it would.
So sorry, but no.

I have never seen a BMW mini flash their light or acknowledge me ever - I don't think they get into the "mini thing" they just treat their car as if it's a particularly fast/good looking fiesta.

Good Looking Fiesta

Most BMW drivers don't seem to be able to see past their own egos anyway.......

I visited the local MINI showroom the other day - I was astounded to see that the car in the showroom was actually fitted with an indicator stalk - I can only assume that this will be removed at the PDI as I ahev never seem a BMW MINI use them!

Indicators are actually a very expensive optional extra on BMWs, hence very few actually have them fitted.

We have had the BMW MINI for a year and a half now and while some people just don't 'get' the friendly flash or wave, I have found a lot of them do, but only to other BMW MINIS. When I spot a BMW or original I usually flash a big cheesy grin at them and most of the time I get a smile in response especially if I make it clear I am checking out their car! (Some of them probably think I am insane of course )

From the other side of the fence I have found that some 'proper' Mini owners look down their noses at BMW MINI owners so I think there is silliness on both sides!

Whichever version you have, personally I think they are all cracking cars with their own style and appeal. I think it is more appropriate to categorise (if that is what you want to do) into people who love their cars and appreciate others who do likewise and those who just don't understand the petrolhead mindset.

(BTW I wouldn't mind an 'original' Mini but the hubby thinks that we have enough cars!)

All IMHO of course

Most MINI drivers buy them 'casue they are the car to have at the moment, some of us are enthusiasts though, I try waving, but usually end up looking a prat as i'm compleatly ignored

They are a different car to the 'mini' so wouldn't wave at one (but if someone waves at me, i'll wave back!)

And yes, it might be a BMW, but we didn't all buy them 'cause we can't afford a proper one

BTW What car won the Auto Express Drivers Car of the Year? (not exactly scientific, but nice anyway)

I usually flash MINI owners from behind when they're in my way.

My S Works pulls like a train compared to a MINI One or the new Cooper.

Have never been acknowledged by one, but rarely fail to get a flash or a wave from classic Mini's... someone even hi-fived me as we passed in a traffic jam once!
