Are the independents warranties as comprehensive as the OPCs? I was advised by the Indy they were but then they would say that. But for £400 can it really be?

has anyone ever even heard of a successful claim on a non OPC waranty?

Sorry but I must put my oar in here again.

It is true that most non-OPC warranties exclude problems caused by wear and tear and also often require complete failure etc - then if you are lucky enough to have a claim accepted, limit the cost and may even require non Porsche parts fitted.

I also frequently mention that we do honour our own Hartech warranty and Lifetime Maintenance Plan (and if we didn't this forum would be full of those examples).

Ours involves a monthly payment (typically £55.00 + Vat/month for a 996), but then all servicing is completely free and an annual MOT and we cover the labour for most repairs (very few exceptions) - you just pay for parts.

It means that for the cost similar to just the service elsehwere your labour is covered and unlike other warranties you simply need the fault to be fixed to be accepted and it includes worn out parts like racks, clutches, brakes etc. You only pay a month in advance and can stop anytime and there is no age limit nor mileage or claim limit.

So please do not include us in your general slating of warranties - which by and large is true elsewhere.

Depends what Indi you go to I suppose.

Forum member C2look has had his money's worth from Malton a few times over, with absolutley no problems. I'm sure he'll comment shortly.

Message for Baz Hart...

Sorry , I assumed the OP was referring to the usual warranty company stuff.

To the OP ....

Many of us posting to this forum have petitioned Hartech to branch out to other areas of the country so we can avail of his service.
I'm still hopeful he'll open a business in Dublin!!

Most of us would say he's the way to go.

Indeed. Never a fuss made about anything. Their warranty covers everything from a dodgy earth on a wire to an engine and box out job to put things right. I can vouch for it. Only wished it lasted longer than a year for total peace of mind but even after its run out, you still get looked after

im interested in knowing how Paragon's warranty compares to OPCs.

Anyone claimed anything substantial?

The price isnt far off, and Im just wondering if its worth warrantying my nearly 9 year old gt3 with them next june.

Hartech would be perfect as they are top chaps, but I am not driving to Bolton (ever)

Sounds like Baz needs to price up a shop somewhere just off the M6 south of Brum to get all the east/west and southern monkey trade in.

Seriously if Baz was closer to where I am in the world my options would be a lot wider than they are.

I wouldn't have a seconds hesitation giving him my busines iff it was just a few hours up the road. Bolton (twinned with Basra) is a little far however.

As for the insurance backed jobs i wouldn't touch them with yours, let alone mine.

You southern boys make me laugh - there are horses in fields on either side of the road leading up to Baz's place.................. OK you wouldn't want to stop to admire the view but that's another story

The biggest problem up here is all the mill workers walking to work each day in the smog from all the chimneys, getting electricity put on and a phone, papers have just started coming through a few days late, and they are thinking of banning all the horse drawn carts - so you never know - it might be modernised one day.

Coming from Surrey - I can honestly say I would never go back. Open Country, less congested roads, friendly down to earth people - but when I told my Mum I was moving to Bolton - her image of it was really bad until she came up.

We even have a football team (and next time they are on TV look out for the Hartech Advert on the lhs far corner!! - yes we support our local team. I think they play in some league or another - something like 5th in the Country.

We have wide roads, good Motorways, close to North Wales etc - come on lads - come and have a look - its not that bad.

There you are Bull 996 - you know what a great place Bolton is - except for those members of the flat earth society who are too frightened to take a look in case they realise they were wrong.

As for Peterpeter - do you live in Austria or something? (only meant in fun).

On a serious note - I do not think we could run this business in the way we do down south. The cost of factories (rent or purchase) and wages etc are higher and would make our methods too expensive. Despite this house prices are lower here so our staff enjoy probably a better standard of living.

For people who own a Porsche (presumably with the intention of driving it) I cannot understand what the problem is driving to Bolton once a year. It takes me 4 to 4.5 hours from Surrey up the M40 M5 M6 and a very pleasant drive at the right time of day. You get more for your money although for owners of newer cars it is probably not neccessary - but as they age and the problems of corrosion, the need for clutches, brakes, etc etc all add to the costs down there and justify a trip once a year for many.

Having said all that - we are always so busy - we are not chasing new customers and with Porsche having doubled their sales in the last 5 years and we typically seeing cars once they are about 5 years old - we are due for a huge increase in demand locally on top of all the older cars we also look after.

Like most Porsche specialists - getting enough work is not a problem - managing it in the future - will be.

It's a fantastic deal, Baz, no doubt about that. It might be worth doing a deal with a local car-hire company as I'm assuming you can't do everything in a single day. I guess I could overnight in Bolton, depends if I'm going to get mugged or something

hartech - On your website you just mention the 996, so does that mean the costs, for instance for servicing and for the Lifetime Maintainance Plan is the same whether it is a 996 C2 or a 996TT or GT3?

Looking at the table of prices in the PDF, I presume the mileage is the mileage the car is allowed to do in one year. What if you happen to go over this limit in one year?
And the prices themselves are the per month payment, right? Do these include VAT?

So just to confirm, you initial outlay would be for a Gold Major Service, approx £550 + VAT. You then just start to pay the monthly installments.
Lets assume worst case scenario:
If you car was to have an engine failure in the first month, a gearbox in the second, and something else major in the third (can't think of anything else rolleyes ), would this be covered?
