996 Turbo problem
Discussion
I have recently re-joined Porsche ownership with a 996tt and it's brilliant!! The only blemish is that I have noticed, on acceleration, there is a slight hesitation. It doesn't happen all the time and it isn't as noticeable as a "missfire". Any thoughts, please? (Whilst I'm on, how do I connect up an Ipod through a wire? It's a 03 plate with Satnav?)

You are joking, right?
Most probably your MAF playing up. You can clean it pretty easily but your only prolonging the inevitable really.
They're about £300 from Porsche and very easy to fit, you may be able to get one cheaper elsewhere as it is a Bosch part but I have no experience of whether this is a reliable route to take.

Sorry, but as it's been one of those days, I'm missing your point?!!

I suppose by cleaning it I can confirm it is The MAF sensor.

My son had this problem with his Turbo, took some sorting but in the end it was a turbo pipe that had blown off.

Turbo Lag?

Check the plugs have been renewed at the last service.
I had the same problem with mine.. slight hesitation going from 2nd to 3rd or 3rd to 4th after a big boot of throttle. Turned out to be a combination of a cracked spark plug, MAF and loose turbo hose.
OPC replaced the MAF and tightened a loose hose on one of the turbos under warranty. Problem got better but was still present. Replacing the spark plugs cured it 100%.. big difference in performance...!
Turns out the indy dealer I bought from had request the OPC to not change the plugs on the service due to low miles. They stumped up for it after the problem was fixed though.
Cheers

Congrats on rejoining the "club"! Go to www.bumperplugs.com for a Denison ICELink iPod solution that hooks into the MOST system.
Only 10000 miles....but check your service book plugs are every 24K or 4 years....so is alot of other stuff your car will need a 48K service very shortly....£1K from OPC £600 from Indy....
As for hesitation have you had car on diagnostic machine for any actual values and fault codes ?
How long has it been stood with that fuel in it then ?
Mike
Sports and classic
Ps youve not filled up at a supermarket in the last 2 weeks have you ?

I have gone through several tanks of fuel and the problem remains!! I have not had a diagnostic check done which is probably the next logical step. I have had supermarket fuel but somewhere between Leicestershire and South Wales and as the characteristics are different , I ruled that out!? The hesitation doesn't happen on hard or moderately hard acceleration.
Sounds like MAF, clean it, see if it still does it, if it does then the MAF should be ok and you will need to look elsewhere.
For cleaning the MAF you need a non-residue electronics cleaner - full instructions can be found in the search (I am sure I posted full instructions a while ago)
