Greetings
As I have just taken early retirement I have now been able to fulfill my dream and buy a Porker.Because of the high Mileages that i used to do a week ,900,I have for the last few years had series of Mercs and Audi's.Because of there warranties I have been forced to pay the stealers to service them and take the bend over when part ex them. This was something that would change with the Porsche.
After much study of your various comments and with much thanks to Bary Hart for his down to earth comments on the water cooled engines i decided Boxster S would be my choice.
So sitting on my drive a 2000 3.2s in speed yellow sits waiting for this Sat where the pair of us will take to the track at Snetterton . The last time i was there I had 450 BHP of Chevy sitting in front of me but he ho I will have to make do with 260 of porsches finest and see if the LSD still works. again thanks to you all for all the entertainment over the winter !!

We are just doing the afternoon to see how she goes. Unfortunately i have just had to fit a new set of boots ,Contis, for the mot but if all goes well will get another set of 18s plus Toyos for the track. She has 60K on the clock so I could be overtaken by the intermediate shaft on the main straight, but i have a spare 2001 3.2 engine sitting in the garage waiting to be breathed on.Fingers crossed not needed till the warmer weather comes!!

60k is nothing, its barely run in!!!
I'll be there all day hopefully wearing out my rear tyres so I can justify a new set
See you Saturday!

Did you have a good day Saturday? I saw the car but not you? My freind got a few pictures of you sideways at the end of the back striaght, which looked a bit interesting! I think there are other pictures too but untill I get the CD of them I don't know!
Hi Tom
Had a great time and well pleased how the old Boxster went.
I spotted your 968 lurking in the garage but you was absent. We had quite a busy afternoon being our first time. Was that your mate in the yellow 968 ,If so he had a grandstand seat of our moment into the esses. I had been leaving it 4th down the revett straight,7200rpm, but i got a great tow out of sears by the 968 i managed to grab 5th just before the bridge but i had to hit breaks bit hard and the old girl jumped out of gear! So we arrived at the esses completely sideways and in neutral.Lucky enough the Boxter had so much rear grip I got of the brakes and she snapped back into line found 3rd and continued unabated. Shame really would have been a Quick lap.Funny thing I had the wife in the passenger seat ,Like me pushing 60, and she could not stop laughing.
After that I left it hitting limiter in 4th.Also do you know what gear the other guys use for Riches. I tried dropping to 3rd a couple of times but it was on the limiter straight away. In the end I was leaving it in 4th and just a quick dab on the anchors and run it through and drop to 3rd for Sears. The slipper gave me great drive out of the hairpin and the brakes were great. We had to leave a bit early to meet someone, just as well really for the Brand new front Conti was total u/s after 30 laps. Will get some racers next time. Hope to see you next time and let us Know if the pics come out or are you going to post on the tube!! . cheers Bob.

Hi
I too have just taken ownership of my first Porsche, a 1990 964 Carrera 4 (Thanks to Andy @ Peak Porsche). I've completed my first 100 miles this weekend and enjoyed every minute of it.
Im looking to keep the car as original as possible during my ownership with just a few cosmetic touches.
Can anyone recommend a good wheel refurbisher near Newcastle upon Tyne? Also, any tips on cleaning the cream carpets? Will a household carpet shampoo do the trick?
Anyway, thanks to everybody who contributes to this forum and for all the useful information i've been able to pick along the way.
Regards
Gary Collinson

I didn't know the guy with the other 968 until Saturday, we had a good chat about the cars though, he seemed to have spent a fair bit of money on that one to get it up to standard!
I will have the Photo's this afternoon so if they have come out ok I'll let you know and send some over.....
My laps went along the lines of;
Senna Straight upto 110mph 4th Gear, down to 3rd for Riches kept in 3rd up to Sears (was told to go quite slow into sears then fast out, this worked really well and on the odd occassion got the back end out in a controlled slide) down Revett Straight hitting 120 ish (just selecting 5th) back down to third for the Esses, then kept in 3rd all the way round the Bomb Hole and Coram, ignoring the turn in cone at russell and rolling in early before selecting 2nd for the Corner and out onto the Senna straight to let some cars by!!!!
I managed to clock up over 200miles on track throughout the day!
Shame there were some people that didn't seem to be able to drive within their limits.... Were you still there when the Rover Rolled?

No I missed that,I thought the little citroen dyane was was great fun,we were following it and i did not know if should pass it on the left or duck under it! Great to see so many people with such a different bunch of cars enjoying themselves. Well run day as well.
I have some pictures now, the only ones of your car seem to be the slide, they're pretty good shots! Looks like you took the cone up into the wheel arch, hope it didn't do any damage (I have past experiences of a Boxster v Cone which aren't good!).
Let me know your email address and I'll attempt to send some through.
