I am looking to buy a "W" reg boxster - would i be wise to get the old 111 check done and then take out a waranty (after paying for the disks and pads etc). I wonder if it is the same price for my £14K car and a 100k turbo jobbie.

Definitely get the Full OPC check done on the car - the chances are they will find nothing wrong and you would have wasted some cash... but the chances are they might find some expensive issues with the car that you can either use as a bargaining chip when it comes to buying or you can walk away. As for the warranty - I would probably buy it knowing that if a gearbox or a engine were to fail I can sleep easy.

Of course the engine or gearbox should not fail - the choice is yours.

There are far better inspections you could have done than an OPC one, which doesn't pay any attention to the car's cosmetic condition and whether it's had any accident or paintwork history. The OPC check IS worth having IF you're going to get the warranty, otherwise I'd have a good independent Porsche specialist inspect it - if the seller will take it to one for you. This should cost you less due to lower labour rates, and will probably be more comprehensive than just a tick-box form.

Otherwise try Peter Morgan's Porsche-only mobile service www.petermorgan.org.uk/

This costs more than the OPC inspection but will definitely be more comprehensive, includes HPI check, written report (again not tick-box sheet) and they do check thoroughly for cosmetics.
