I've re-carpetted a Chimaera before and am currently considering options for this one.

It's only faded this time so I'm considering dyeing it but if I HAVE to remove the carpet I was wondering about replacing the carpet on the parcel shelf, doors and transmission tunnel with alcantara.

The thing is I'm not sure this will look right with three different materials. Leather, alcantara and carpet (floor only). Also, how wear resistant is alcantara?

The more I think of it the dafter it sounds.

I don't think it sounds daft. I, for a long time have thought the carpet in the doors especially look naff. I have also been thinking about this very same thing. Anyone any ideas as to where we can get this? as I for one will be doing it.

Its an interesting question Flinstone - I did toy with the idea of dyeing the carpet on the doors but decided to replace it with new.

I just had a doubt regarding alcantara and even suede regarding cleaning but I did wonder if a complimentarty leather would be better in this regard.

Will let you know how I get on - hope the door cards are easy to disassemble scratchchin

Cheapest place I've found for Alcantara is this place www.glenrevis.co.uk (I'm going to be doing the door cards on my Chim soon) I e-mailed them for some colour swatches and received them in the post within a couple of days.
Price they quoted me was £35 per metre plus VAT on a 1.4 metre wide roll.

My Tuscan has Alcantara (pumpkin coloured yum) on the door cards, the roof hoop, and roof panel lining and it looks lovely next to the black leather, a really good contrast! The rear shelf is mainly carpeted (black), but the rear speaker mount panel is also Alcantara, and again looks 'right'.

It doesn't feel like it would stand up to lots of abuse so may not be suitable for the rear shelf, but it would look great in the doors, etc. thumbup

I glade you have posted this, I spent most of Sunday afternoon trawling the web for Alcantera I think its also called faux suede.
I intend to do just the door cards on my Chim, the carpet looks a bit Naff to me.
I have recently had the door panels off and to do just the cards looks pretty straight forward.

Did the doors on my last Griff in Alcantara. I had mid-grey leather, mid-grey carpets, mid-grey doors. Not a huge amount of interest, so I left the seats and tunnel mid-grey and did the floor and parcel shelf carpet in very pale grey with graphite edging and overmats, and graphite alcantara door scoops.

Looked superb and really finished the interior off

Looks really nice! I was never too keen on the carpeted doors and Transmission Tunnel.

Thanks

The carpet on the sides of the trans tunnel and the parcel shelf looks fine if you get nice smooth short pile carpet.

The OP suggested alcantara on the rear shelf which, personally, I think would look a bit odd and, if you ever used it for bags I think it might mark quite badly.

The trick with these cars is to get contrast without going over the top, as the interior styling has such lovely shapes and curves to work with.

Surely Alcantara on the transmission tunnel and doors is going to get badly marked as well - for a Chimaera shag carpet is definitely the way to go, Baby! Gives that authentic 60s hairdressing salon look.

The fabric was never actually Alcantara but a similar product (with higher wear resistance) from www.boynett.com and it's called Lamonta. Hope you chaps find what you're after!

Just out of interest guys, in view of the the pending retrim job I need to do, how easy are the door cards and moulded outer surround to separate?

Are they bonded together or pinned in some manner?

Kind regards all.

Bloke you could always use aluminium sheet, it would give you something else to polish.rofl
