The S is the better performing car & will depreciate less.

Although the 'S' is usefully better to drive than the standard model, I would personally prefer a 987 2.7 to a 986 3.2.

That seems to be the way im leaning - what are the cosmetic differences between the body styles of the boxter and the s - it just seems to be the wheels from the ones on autotrader?

Wheels, door handles, side intakes, the front is different too, I think mostly the headlights. Assuming you've seen a 987 in the flesh but also the interior is totally different (in a different league IMHO).

Performance, 280bhp vs 245bhp
Depreciation, the 3.2S is old shape, the 2.7 new, so oddly I'd not expect too much between them..

If you can, wait for the 2008 direct injection model 2.7, apparently 13% more power and 15% less thirsty..

New 987 has 240bhp

The last of the 986Ss has 260bhp - (266bhp for the anniversary model IIRC and 252bhp originally).

Performance of the standard 987 should be not unlike the old S - perhaps a tad slower. The 987S started with 280bhp and now has 295bhp.

As to depreciation? Well the 986 model dumped quite badly in terms of used value when the 987 came out. That initial drop won't happen again. So for your 27K you would get the latest greatest 986S - and some change probably.

I have a 986S and love it (my second!). I won't be changing it. All the same - I would say buy the 987 car.

245bhp

(not that your gonna do much with 5hp, run it in like you stole it and use high octane petrol to have more effect )

Cheers for the help. I have been looking to change my elise and today after trying a boxster i think it is the winner over the M3 - Now it is just a case of hunting one down.

Its going to be the new shape and in black, is there anything i should keep away from ./ look out for re: spec - also is £27k realsitic, this is the top end of my budget (25k would be ideal!!!)

cheers chaps.

I too concur, 3.2S everytime! The performance difference is appreciable. Best of luck.

3.2s - there are a lot more differences other than power.

True. The S came with superior brakes. Whilst the braking capability isn't appreciably greater they are fade free on track. If you intend to track the car this may be well worthwhile.

The S also came with a lot of toys the 2.7 did not. You would need to check the options on a 987 2.7. Climate control air-con is a must.

What a load of cack - The Boxster is great. The trouble is the abuse is almost defintely coming through people that have never driven a boxster so are in no position to comment.

It is an epic car.

laugh

Racing drivers are they? Ignore them, I can't think of any car I rather have than my Boxster (Except a 987 Boxster, which I have driven so am qualified to say that!!)
