Cracked braked discs

Just stripped down my fronts and found about 50% of the vanes cracked

Is this common?

Not in my experience. It is more common to get small radial cracks on the areas wiped by the pads, caused by differential thermal expansion. If the cracks weaken the structure substantially then it could lead to catastrophic failure under braking which is obviously very dangerous.

Bloody hell Pies that looks bad... mine were caked in rust so I replaced them last week (£31 delivered including a set of mintex pads) They could have been cracked as well under all of that rust. makes you wonder how many are like that. any doubt ? replace them at that cost.

Well of the 29 vanes 16 were cracked clean through.

One minute with a screwdriver and hammer and the disc is in two halves
