Hi, I have just realised 3 things 1. my first post in greneral Matorsport was in the wrong place & 2. I don't think I explained my problem correctly. 3. I forgot to put a topic title on my first post in this forum rolleyes

Could a mediator please delete my first attempt in this forum, Thanx.

Here Goes Again Again!

I currently have a steel flip front round nose mini which I have been using for 2 years in Hill Climbs & sprints. Unfortunately because it has the steel flip front & "modified inner wheel arches" I have been running in the D1, Sports Libre, class and want to get into the A1 production class.

Therefore I have decided to fit a clubman front (more under-bonnet room!) properly welded in as per a normal car and register it with DVLA as a clubman. I don't think I will be able to use the current tyres, 175/55/13 A048Rs, as the clubman never had that size wheels/tyres whereas the sportspack round nose mini did.

There is a supplementary reg for the ASWMC championship I contend in that allows either 60 profile & above OR any size tyre below that profile that was offered as an option by the manufacturer for that model for A1 Production class. The Blue Book, section 1A, A048R restriction is overriden by these Supp regs as they only limit the profile, not the tyre choice, it just has to be road legal. There is a bit in the blue book in the tyres section that allows for this.

I have 8.4" discs fitted so 10" wheels are not a solution to my problem. So what I am after are some track tyres that are 12" and 60 profile or above, ideally 165 in width.

I have some A539s in the 13" size but do not feel this particular tyre will provide the necessary grip whilst cornering the rather tight twisty bends I have to navigate at my best speed.
Cheers, Barry

For what reason exactly? If you are A-series powered you can fit and plumb everything you'll need (including a front mounted Rad) with ingenuity under a round nose front with standard inner wings. The benefit is that It'll give you the choice of 10", 12" & 13" rims (all standard production size on a round nosed Mini at one time in its life) and all the tyre options that this gives you.

The only thing then required is the strength of Neanderthal combined with the skills of swiss watchmaker, for working on the Engine in situ without the benefits of the flip front hehe
