Folks,

I am new to the forum and looking for some serious advice with regards to what i should buy. Within 7-10days i should have best part of £20k to spend on a TVR so im looking for helpful comments with regards to what to buy. In the past, iv had a large mixture of motors from Skylines, to Subarus, to BMWs and so forth.

As it stands, a Cerbera 4.2 is the first choice, followed shortly by the 4.5 and then the Tuscan

From what i have been reading, the 4.2 Cerb is not much slower, and appears to suffer from less problems than the 4.5 version. Obv different people have their opinions but the general verdict is the 4.2 is the better choice overall.

The Cerbera was always the model i liked best due to the overall sleekness of the body shape and the interior design i think is the best out of the whole TVR range. Iv been in a Cerbera, Griff, Tuscan and a Sagaris now, and i still think the Cerbera has the nicest interior.

But, there is something about the front end of a Tuscan that just looks mean and catches your eye. Even with the front light conversion, i still dont think the Cerbera looks as good as the Tuscan or Sagaris.

So, im now stuck in a situation!! Money to spend on either a Cerb or Tuscan but i cant decide!!

Would be great to hear some stories for people who have change from Cerbs to Tuscans and vice versa, reasons why, pros and cons for both cars etc.

Cheers

Barry

driving it everyday and will never need more than 2 people to be in it

Exactly what problems do you think the 4.5 suffers from that the 4.2 doesn't?

I always thought it was the other way around?

Early 4.2's snapping cranks, fuel line fractures etc?

They're both fantastic cars and fairly reliable too

For me and me alone it would be the Cerbie all day, every day

If it was for me and the missus - Tuscan, because she likes them

Yes, all my research led me to that conclusion too.

If anything, the 4.2 is better set up from new in terms of induction length and mapping but the cast crank put me off a 4.2 even though historic problems associated with that are indeed consigned to history. It's just that the 4.5 has so much more potential for the garage twiddler.

Get the best you can for about 17k and put 3k in a hole for the unexpected, if all is well after 12 months then blow the reserve on nitrons/ohlins or protechs, get yerself the loudest feck off sportz zorst and take the cats out.

Job sorted thumbup

for 17k you'll get a very nice late-ish 4.2 or even an early LW 4.5 this has to be the way forward...of course it has to be some shade of blueish

lol!! blue is defo the colour it appears!!! lol!!

apart from the crank problem, i cant find that many other common faults with the 4.2?

on the pro side, it appears more responsive, and a better drive compared to the 4.5 which
is a bit lumpy

again guys, remember im quite new to this so any extra light u can shed please feel free. id rather make sure i knew everything i can expect to go wrong with either car, either engine instead of go buy one and get a shock and think doh, i shoulda bought the other one!

i love the look, the sound and the overall design of both cars.

i always said it was the Cerb for me and im 90% sure so far thats what ill go for

unless you manage to pull 2 girls up town on the saturday!!!???

mind you - since yir currently averaging precisely zero girlies then you could always get rid of the passenger seat also! You could then turn it into a 4.2 extra light weight? A bit like yirsel! biglaugh

The snapping cranks was sorted by around 95 so Im suprised it even gets a mention these days. Throttle response is judged to be really nice on the 4.2 when compared to the 4.5 (TVR factory service guys told me this), and this does make a difference in drivability for some. Add to that the torque curve characteristics between the 4.2 & 4.5 -- tbh best thing is go and drive both then decide which you like best. blabla

So buy a Tuscan - and when you have kids, keep the Tuscan and add a Cerbera

Was a speed 6 cerb so very similar. Sag is blisteringly quick and far more controlled. The cerb was more 'twitchy' - it actually felt faster purely because it was more unstable if that makes sense. Got to get the headlight conversion so it doesnt look to dated. If I had 20K to spend I'd defo have one again. Cheers!

Are the two cars appreciably different in terms of refinement? I see the Sag as a pretty raw car - noisy, visceral, not something you'd necessarily want to cruise a 200 mile journey in - with a less senstive companion.

Also, and this is a general question, most drivers I know are scared of the Cerbie, so, if someone really know how to drive one - is a Cerbie quick, like 911 quick - on a track?

Imagine Schumacher in a Cerbie vs Schumacher in a Porsche GT3 - who'd win?
