they look really nice but is the price justified when for £20k more you could have a peach of a 2.7?

Hats off to Paul for having a go at something different, but I just don't understand it at all. For that money you could have a 964 RS AND a 964 turbo II 3.6. Both real cars with history and values holding fast. In twenty years time when everyone's forgotten about PS, what will this car be worth? 6 grand?

£75k eek That's almost a new 997GT3 money!

Your're right - decent, genuine 2.7RSTs now start at £90k+.

Excellent replicas with full RS running gear, based on 72/73 shells, are £30-50k.

I've no doubt this is a brilliant piece of kit, and am sure that given the costs associated with getting a donor car turned into a PS300, 75k isn't even that bad. But it still seems a bit nuts, frankly, when this kind of money puts a lot of tasty 'genuine' 911s on the menu.

I think I prefer Porsches version of the Porsche 2.7 RS

However if you want the same driving experience you dont have to go that far.
A late eightes 3.2 offers asimilar experience for vastly less.

People forget the 3.2 Carrera figures when only ranting on about the RS.

'73 2.7 RS Touring power and weight: 210bhp & 1075kg = 198bhp/Ton
'89 3.2 Carrera power and weight: 231bhp & 1210kg = 195 bhp/Ton

If you remove some trim, rear seats, soundproofing, window motors etc, I have no doubt that you will challenge the RS lightweight on power to weight. If you want more excitement, fit the thinner tyres and you'll have the 'legendary agility', plus more reliability.

The Eigties 3.2 must be one of the the worlds most undervalued cars at the moment, with IMHO enormous investment potential. I would say that, but just ask anybody who's had one.

It's how that power is delivered in the 2.7RS that mitigates against your argument - even worse for this 964 based car, but having owned a 964RS, the 964 engine can be made to rev like one of the earlier engines....

No doubt about any of that, but they're thin on the ground. You don't see many for sale.

Maybe - in the final analysis that's true. But you get an lot of the driving experience and it remains a real 911. At 20% of the cost of an RS, that should appeal to a lot of the people,a lot of the time.

3.2's are all going one way or the other at the moment.
Scragged and scrapped, or pampered.

Whats the point in selling one for only 12k? you might as well stash it if its a good one.

Id rather have a good 930 with provenance than a PS bitza, take a look at Globulators Turbo here.

The PS market looks like its for the japanese maybe, bit like retroing minis, thats their thing.
Ive heard a few not so good reports about the PS conversions, e.g. bubbling bodywork at the front edge of the bonnet where they are converted to the long bonnet style, the wheels look awful.
Simons right, what will it be worth in a few years?

I'm looking for help here, rather than to embarrass myself, but the ad says it's 964 based and with coil springs. I thought the coil spring suspension came in with the 993?

911 'Club Sport' would be the way to go.

Lwt - 1160 kg and blueprinted/optimised engine producing more like 245 bhp

Good ones £25-35k.

I guess they've changed it. It suggest it has totally new suspension wishbones etc.

The look is nice, but worth triple the money of a standard 3.2 ?
A standard 3.2 is 231bhp

Burrianas old 3.2 at less than 15k.
Still glad its gone Al?

The 964 was changed from any previous 911's torsion bar suspension and came from the factory with coils and dampers but still a trailing arm. The 993 had an all new multilink suspension.

cheers

This is my std everyday '89 SC. It's worth something like 15k.
I havn't driven an 2.7 RS, but have driven most of the others. IMHO the 3.2 is best 'classic' bodied all rounder - that's why all these replica companies use it as the base. Like Octane mag says 'Get one of these before everybody realises'
Is the CS really worth twice as much? What improvement do you really get?I can't dispute the rarity, but I do dispute the credibility. You can get the 10hp with an ECU mod these days and save the same weight if you remove some trim - like Porsche did.
