I imagine this must have been done recently and it's hardly the season for setting blistering lap times at the Nordschliefe.

It's great that sport auto do these definitve tests, however the track is so variable, grip levels would be vastly different on a warm summer sunday afternoon post a big VLN race.

Well that's odd as the scan is from sport auto and has a 7.46 for the 996 RS. There is also a 7.40 from another mag, and a 7.42 I think from Walter in autosport und motor. Which just goes to show the variability that SP mentions.

It also highlights the pointlessness of getting all excited about a 2 second improvement etc.

Well, as good as it get, same driver etc. The Sport Auto Supertest time for the 996GT3RS is 7,47, not 7,46. I have the mag @ home.

Wow, this must have been done way back in oct then?

I'm not expecting the 997 to be leagues faster, in fact the 996/997 should be pretty well matched. The big difference is you won't need to try so hard to go as quick in the 997. Or to put it another way, us avg joe's will be able lower our lap times and still have some (of the little we have) talent in reserve.

My mistake you are right it is 7.47 as per the scan linked above.

Same driver isn't that relevent though given the track conditions are so variable. Anyway I'll start worrying when I can lap in less than 8

These are Sport Autos figures from their Supertest, which is seen as the standard when comparing Ring times. There are both faster cars and faster drivers, but Sport Autos tests are consistent, same procedure same driver etc.

Good point, and the 997 is on stickier tyres too. This is going to annoy 997 RS owners for the rest of time as people trot out the sport auto time ad nauseum. lol.

Michael Vergers did 6.55 in a radical.

But as mentioned, this is a sport auto test and the driver is Horst Von Saurma.

I also seem to recall that the germans were not willing to accept the 6.55, don't remmebr on what grounds, as official. So either the Edo GT2 or donkevoort are the current "road car" record holders
