Yeah I'm sure they'll continue to fall in price as the mileages go up. There will always be exceptional examples and desirable models (RS, GT2, 4S and maybe tt) that will retain extra value and, in some cases, appreciate, but the downwards pressure put on porker prices by the much larger production numbers of the subsequent models will weigh heavily on the market.
Despite that, they have probably now reached a level where they can be bought and enjoyed without losing too much value, so overall ownership costs won't be too bad if you can find a good one that isn't about to cost mega-squids to fix.
Just an opinion but buy for fun - don't kid yourself that you're investing in an appreciating asset.

As a relatively new Porsche owner - just 1 month - there seems to be a great deal of guff spouted on values. Everyone knows a car is one of the worse ways to 'invest' money so why would the Porsche marque be any different - Porsche exotica excepted?
Did you buy a Porsche as an investment or did you buy it to drive it?

The basics are this..The aircooled boys dont like the watercooled boys because we drive better cars. The aircooled boys see the water cooled boys who drive 996/997 as a big threat to the master plan. The masterplan being that if Porsche didnt build anymore cars after the 993 in 1997 their cars would be worth more than they paid for them in the first place..but usualy not from Porsche in the first place.
Production numbers are higher in the 996 (160000 total units) against 75,000 total units for say the 993 all varients. This is not good for people who sell and forever sing the praises of aircooled bacause the snow fall that is the 996, and ultimatley the 997 will bury the 993/964 in time (maybe another three years maximum. This is when you will see prices very low, in the region of your average pre 1989 cars. Then you get the true enthusiasts who buy latest gt/rs versions new from opc and flog them for list price or more, this then comes under the porsche microscope and they see people making profits of their backs so decide to either increase volumes of cars/cost of cars/cost of specs etc etc etc. The enthusiast who buys new is so enthused by his new car that he sells it after two months (because hes an enthusiast) then trys to run up the motorway as fast as his now sold gt3/rs with his pockets full of dosh..its all a bit odd and way more complecated than I can be arsed to go on about anymore. All good fun and opinions vary. People seem to want the cake and the half penny as well. Porsche have wised up and will wise up further when they see their cars at plus 10/25k over list. We wonder why we are rip off britain..not many nationals would pay plus 25% on list for a new car..just maybe we seal our own fate! Bullit and foot spring to mind.........

These guys hate those guys, and those guys hate you guys, therefore, vicariously you guys hate these guys, and Porsche hates all of you.
Now were getting somewhere..for a moment I thought things were getting a little muddled..
