Got up this morning, to a loud high pitched sound comming from outside, went to investigate, turned out to be the horn on my 348! Just started honking by its self. I opened the car and thought i'd try pressing the horn, and it worked, the noise stopped. Has anyone got any ideas as to why this might have happened and how to prevent it happening again? (dont think the neighbours were impressed at 6am!). It wasn't the alarm as it is a clifford and not linked the the car horn (also tried turning alarm on/off, just in case). If anyone can shed some light on this i'd be most gratefull.

thanks Darren.

Did it have a nightmare?

Seriously though are you in a rural location as I've found mice before, they can chew through wires or at the least cause a short.

Hmmm, was thinking it could be moisture causing it, didn't have the rodent idea though! I live on the edge of epping forest, and so get lots of squirrels.
Must dig out that air rifle.
Is there anyway of testing for a bad connection? will it show up now the horn isnt sounding off? and why did it stop when i pressed the button?

Cheers Darre.

Hmm, pressing the button could have been enough to clear the relay contacts. I would have thought wiring damage would cause a more permanent problem ? Ferraris, life of their own...
Visual inspection wherever the horn is (don't know on a 348) and looking for droppings would confirm rodent damage. Never had that happen to a car, but found a somewhat charred rat near a light once

mrsd, your idea is sounding more and more plauseble (can't spell), I'll have a nose round and see what i can see. Dose anyone know where this relay may be located?

It might be plausible, but the car's a Ferrari, so the root cause might be something completely random. Example: boot light bulb blows, cd changer stops working (456) Good luck sorting it out

No clues on the horn problem, but another interesting Ferrari quirk is if a brake light bulb blows and shorts out the fuse for it, or if the brake light pedal switch just fails on it's own...a 360 F1 wont give gears!

I had one of those delightful Volvo 480's for a while. One day while parked, it popped it's own headlights up and suirted the headlamp washers until dry....It cried itself to death!

Went to auction of course!
