Odd MINI bulb problem

I've just had a service done on my Mini Cooper S(54reg) One problem that I picked up on before it went in was that the light that illuminates the heater direction control was out. So new bulb I hear you say? No, a whole new unit!! Luckily it was under warranty but I dread to think how much this would cost out of warranty.

Anyone else had this problem?
