Chrome Struts

Hi guys, I want to get hold of some chrome struts for my rear window or have mine chromed, does anybody know of where I can get it done or does anybody out there have a set which they would like to exchange for a small fee?

Griff or Chim alloy ones are the popular exchange items - you do have to re drill fixings holes, they will cost you about £80 second hand (try Douglas Valley breakers) and are far superior to the original S ones in their operation - chroming these originals will be expensive in my experience and not as good as the Griff and Chim ones.

Just noticed this on Ebay - might be worth contacting the guy to see if he still has the roof struts

If Douglas Valley or ebay do not have any then you could try Bell Hill. I got some from there last year for £80+postage. Look and feel a lot better than the originals and they don't rattle either

My Chrome struts rattle as well !!

I had my original struts powder coated, I had to take them apart to have them done, and put them together again using nuts and bolts. They look great and definitely do not rattle! The other bonus is the rear part of the roof does not fall down when taking off/putting on the panels

did you get them done locally ?

My Dad got them done through his work! I am sure that a local powder coater would do them, as long as you remove the pins and get the old coating stripped off, the company mine went to sand blasted them and powder coated in one day!

get yourself some nitromoors,to remove the black paint on originals,you will find they are made of stainless steel,then polish up with autosol,just done mine they come up brilliantly cost next to nothing.

Never had any rattled from the chrome struts I'd fitted to the S3 and its not something I can recall any Griff/Chim/Tamora owners moaning about, so it sounds like it could be caused by the removal/re-fitting process of them perhaps...
