Hi,Having been looking for a 996 over the last few months and driven a few I am going to look at this one tomorrow(Flying over-I am in NI):

http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/

The car has everything that I am looking for eg Manual c2 coupe with reasonable miles and full service history but it also has some options that I really would like but didnt think I would be able to find such as the sports chassis and lsd.I am also very fond of the red interior which is also quite hard to find.

The service history is Full Porshe(mostly Nottingham with one leeds)with the last service carried out by Strasse. The tyres are new as is the mot.
I have been assured that the car is immaculate inside and out with no rms or other mechanical issues and that the front bumper will hve its stonechips repaired at Porsche(I will view it with its stonechips)

The thing is the car is EARLY 1998 ie 10 Feb so over 9 years old so no Porsche warranty available!.It can be bought for slightly less than sticker price...

I would value you guys opinion on this as you have much more experience of the cars than me.

Nice colour, nice miles, wrong interior.

Provided all stamps are in the right place and the tyres etc are all as promised - you seem have located a nice deal. But I would be wary about the interior, could make resale very difficult - which may explain why this is obviously priced to sell and the dealer is keen to put all the niggles right for you prior to sale. How long has he had it?

Whilst your heart may be in it - use your head. I wouldn`t buy a car with that interior and neither would most people on here - it will appeal to the minority (pimps and that - only joking )so just bear that in mind thumbup

Funny, I think that that interior looks great on silver boxsters but have to agree it isn't the best colour I've seen in a 996

same as my car, except gearsbox and interior colour, I have not had a bit of trouble, so enjoy & try and get recipts for services not just a stamped book, call the previous owner, but it looks nice.

Right.

On behalf of the following posters, I say as follows.

KayC - values are plummeting. OPCs are wank3rs
A993LAD - buy a 993 - 996s are sh1t
Vesuvius996 - get one with OPC warranty
KayC - Vesuvius is a wank3r

There, thread closed.

On a serious note I would spend a little more and get one with at least one year of OPC warranty left. £22k is too cheap for a good un.

Have a look at 911Virgin.com as well. Some good cars there at good prices from a known specialist. You can buy at the Bug Price and get the car inspected and OPC warrntied yourself, or got for the Retail Price and have Henry stand behind the car and a third party warranty after that.

looks ok to me, not a fan of the red interior but thats probbly reflected in the price.

some questions to ask to get the price down

coil packs, have they been done in the last 2 years?
disks and pads, about time they needed doing if they aint, over a grand at OPC for all corners.
aircon, when was it last regassed?
maf sensor - again its about due a replacment.
tires - my first set lasted me 4 weeks, 4000 miles, but I was sort of "using" the car alot.
clutch.
geo, check tire wear if they are not new, had mine done when i bought it 18months ago it needs doing again now.

and the usual, does it still have cupholders, unbrella in the side pocket, and throw in the "what pram fits in it" just for good measure.

Silver with red looks great-I would be more worried about the yellow indicators...however....I cannot believe the lack of confidence Vesuvious has in the 996. He is saying dont buy an unwarrantable car (not sure what he plans to do with his when it hits 9 years old!).

Also-do you really want the sports chassis-its great on smooth tracks but horrendous on rough roads-of which there are many in NI as I understand

Thanks guys for the replys so far-there are some good questions mentioned there that I haven't asked.
The service intervals are:
7548miles OPC
11727miles OPC
20493miles OPC
26067miles OPC
31982miles OPC
42602miles OPC(48k service)
59107miles Independent.-so it went 16.5k without a service marked in the book-that mileage took 11months so was obviously used as a daily driver.1300k approx was spent at this service on pads, service, coil packs, front drop links steering rack end, tracking and some other minor stuff.

I suppose I will have to make up my mind on the interior colour when I see it although if the centre console was painted silver it would improve it I think.I am in NI and the cars are uncommon over here with very few for sale at any time-I dont know that the red would be so off-putting over here because of that but this is of course total speculation. Also a good friend looks after a lot of the non OPC serviced 996's over here about 500yards from my front door!.

5000 miles late for a service yikes

Hmmm. Smacks of the car being owned by someone who (a) didn't give a sh1t, or (b) couldn't afford it.

Beware.

You do know that they are 200 miles away and a 996 could never make it that far without the engine falling apart
