Advice wanted - 924 Auto
Discussion
Ive spotted a 1978 924 auto in autotrader near me that's quite tempting, please could anyone give me some advice of what to look for/questions to ask before I arrange to see it?

I am happy with the basics but is there anything specific to this model I should be checking as I know nothing about them. Thanks

Depends what you want.
I think everyone knows how much I love 924's. but............ I wouldn't touch an auto with a bargepole, not that I don't like auto's, or that the auto is unreliable, just that the engine doesn't really suit an auto in a sports car, the 924 chassis cries out to be driven, and if I'm honest the 2.0l is underpowered for the chassis anyway, this does make the car very chuckable, but you put an auto in there and you lose the chickable factor and just end up with the underpowered bit left!
On the positive side, they tend to be very well looked after, lower mileage, good condition mechanicals, and it isn't hard to swap the box, I actually have the gear lever and the driveshafts which you can have for a small contribution to my bike fund.
But at £650 it isn't the cheapest 924, although it is cheap, so unless it's tidy walk away, lots of rough manuals for that price.

well all the S models use a 944 engine but I know where your coming from!
The s is a lovely car though and cheaper (and I think prettier) than a 944.

Not strictly true - the engine was detuned in the earlier Ss for obvious marketing related reasons. Only the run-out cars (IIRC) had the same spec as the 944.
