If not buying from an OPC, what procedure should be followed apart from getting it checked by an OPC and buying the warranty.
-Does the OPC check previous accident/write off issues?
-What guidelines should I follow in terms of making sure the seller (private or indy) actually owns the car?
-What is the safest way to pay?
-Have I missed anything?

Cheers guys

Bought mine from Stratstone in Hagley. Got Peter Morgan to inspect the car and he did the HPI checks and went over the car. He spotted a couple of issues which the dealer sorted with no argument. The dealer gave the car a 6 month warranty, if anything goes wrong they sort it. I was a little dubious with this, but fair play to them, the car has had a new heater control unit put in, again with no fuss. Then the car went in for a 48k service and 111 point check so I could buy the warranty. Leaking variocam seal, horn and ignition coil pack all needed replacing for the car to pass. Called up Stratstone and said what can we do about this? They called the OPC and told them to charge the work to them. So they have been outstanding in their dealings with me.

I guess it comes down to what the dealer you buy from is like.

I payed the deposit on my credit card and the balance via Switch.

Re. ownership, check the V5 details all add up. Meet the owner at their home address. Go inside to check the paper work etc.
