996 GT2.. tuning
Discussion

Have just bought a 462 version.
Would like to up the power/torque to a reasonable level, still running the KKK24s
Have spoken to a tuner, I know about options.. but just wondering on peoples personal experiences and knowledge?
Cheers,
Rob
I had DMS upgrade the ecu my TT.Transforms the power delivery of the car with no downside in normal use that i can detect.Lots of mates of mine have had various cars done by them with great results as well.Standard tt goes to just sub 500bhp with around 500 pounds of torque.According to DMS they have done around 200+tt's and even had one heavily modified at around 700bhp. Would like to up the power/torque to a reasonable level, still running the KKK24s

...tough guy! Isn't the std bhp enough for you
I can't thik i would realistically use any more on our roads. Maybe on a track or in the summer but for normal uk road conditions there is more than enough to entertain me and keep my attention focused
I like the way you are going though....had the car a few days and already backing yourself with more power. Good man!

If you keep the power below 600 then no need for internal engine work (i.e conrods)
best,
adam
Sports Exhaust and an ECU Upgrade seem the sensible options and should net you in excess of 500bhp from my enquiries.
DMS seem to be very good on TT/GT2 ECU Upgrades as mentioned.
Exhausts are a bit of a minefield but my favourites would be Tubi & Europipe, although some other good names include Fabspeed, Cargraphic, DMS etc.

Have just got out of a well setup RS, and know the GT2 will not match it for precision handling and feedback.
The GT2's strength will lie in its straight line performance down the hangar straight
Therefore will want to use all its potential, once I start 997 GT3RS hunting.. Glenn
Will set the car up for track work, and will take power/torque to max safe levels with standard 24s.

Fair enough....track day use would make sense of more power and lets face it, it's not as if you haven't had enough fast porsches in the past! Keep us posted.
I had my car done in November last year (just at the start of the bad weather!)
It was really comforting knowing it was mechanically perfect, the actual bhp was 460 before the remap, it now has a minimum of 500bhp, all the rolling roads I go on say it would be more if they could cool the car down enough. My bar thing was only increased by 0.25, I could have increased it by a lot more, and had 550 bhp, but wanted a smoother response
I was very happy with the std car, days like today I wish I had the original, but now the car feels lighter which I love, speak to maahny on here who will help you with ideas on how to change your car, don't want to say improve, because it isn't broke in the first place.

Had my GT2 done at DMS and had no problems at all. I fitted the Hybrid (race spec)KKK-K24 turbocharders with high performance wast gates,
Equal length tubular stainless streel manifolds,
Full stainless steel sports exhaust with 200 cell high output catalytic converters,
High pressure fuel system,
DMS ecu software programme,
Race spec Bosch spark plugs.
1.4 bar max boost!
All this completly transforms the car and makes it seriously quick, I do not no what BHP it is producing, but would be very intrested to find out as it started with 485bhp(2004 m/y) The car is still very reliable and also very drivable!! The mid range is where you realy feel the differance, The GT2 is now just as quick as an Enzo if not quicker as I have found out when ive been up agenst my mate sevaral times in his Enzo!

Mark, How much did all this cost? I am currently running mine with an engine remap, modified exhausts and induction kit from specialist cars of malton. But I have had conversations with John there and he said the next step is larger turbos, changes to the cats, new ecu, exhaust changed again etc, I reckon that may push it over 600bhp - is that sensible? (well obviously not
)...could that damage the engine at all? Think my max boost is only 1.0/1.1 at the mo.... ta

Mine was done in Birmingham by one of the nicest car guys I've ever met.
He's a mate of Lonman's and did his GT2.

Was that Jayson (Jason?) at ChippedUK? I was down there at weekend, such a good guy. Certainly knows his stuff! only had my little Fiat remapped but he got a good gain when combined with a new induction kit.

Above 600fwhp the conrods can start to bend (though as I understand it's the amount of torque the engine produces that will have a large influence on whether the rods are stressed sufficiently to cause their failure)
No doubt at some point during his "real world" engine dyno runs (and no I don't wish to get involved in a debate on chassis versus engine dynos
) Mr RUF saw conrod failures (or deformation) and decided he couldn't warrant an engine that may suffer catastrophic failure due to the rods flexing or breaking, and thus decided they needed replacement. Whether some of the alleged 580-600 fwhp conversions by DMS et all warrant a change of connecting rods is question only they (the individual tuner) can answer.
