Why can't the channel all this creative energy into something which is actually useful?

The technology is absolutely fine.

The purposes to which it may be put by our utterly untrustworthy government are not fine. Not fine at all.

Very sad to see that the government have stopped listening to the point where some aggrieved person may be resorting misguidedly to direct action against innocents. Very sad indeed. Its no excuse, mind. No excuse at all.

We think it's a crock o' crap? Between one thing or another, I'm already moved to a militant disposition by the fact catching speeders and motoring offenders seems to garner more technological support and investment than curing cancer or exploring space. Is driving a bit quickly that much of a problem? I'm just waiting for the day after all the roads carry tolls and everywhere I go is monitored by satellite, to be told I now have to hire a government representative to drive me around to make super-sure I don't do anyone an injury. It seems the way we're headed. A big problem here, is that when the country (or countries - it's as bad on the Continent) is run by lawyers, then everyone seeks to justify his or her existence by writing legislation, and the amount of this legislation and the number of 'brilliant' ideas encapsulated therein has become a measure as to how busy or effective any individual or department is. We're unlucky in that politics seems by and large to attract the less talented amongst us - the sort of bossy and slightly dim eejits that used to run for student elections and were very impressed with themselves for being so brilliant whilst the rest of us were on the p*ss.
