I'm about to give my '99 Audi a first ever coat of carnauba wax and I'm wondering whether to do the side windows too. Any thoughts? I'm hoping it'd work like RainX perhaps? Won't be doing the windscreen though - I'm guessing that'd become smeary.

Have given it one coat of polish with Autoglym Super Resin. Tomorrow will do another one and then apply the wax. I applied the Autoglym to the side & rear windows and the cloth came off black so it's clearly removed some grubby film from the glass.

TIA

Shouldn't be a problem on side windows, although would advise not to apply to main windscreen for fear of smearing.

It is also worth claying your glass if you have a clay kit.

Agreed - Claying glass is very effective and critical to making any dressing, wax, sealant adhere...

Hmm. Thanks for the replies. I don't have a clay bar so it'll just have to go on raw. We'll see how things turn out.

Remember reading something way back that said you should never ever use body wax on windows because it caused vision problems at night.

That might have been the old style solid wax, but probably still better to play it safe and stick to Autoglym glass polish or similar products made for the job.

It's interesting that claying glass has come up because recently i was thinking whether it would be ok to use on glass, as it's been mentioned i assume it must be, however would it be ok on a windscreen ? just to clean it without using anything else over it.

I chickened out of putting wax on the glass in the end, but I don't really know why. Perhaps I'll wax one side and not the other and see if there's a difference.

Certainly polishing then waxing the bodywork has left me with a warm fuzzy glow (and a lovely-looking car). cloud9

I've used Zaino Z2 sealant on glass, never on the front screen, but has worked fine on rear and side screens.
