One of the alloys on the RS that I have got has started to "craze" on the red spokes, the others have yet to go but no doubt will go eventually.

I have a set of standard GT3 (MK2) alloys that have ToyoR888's on and these will be my track wheels therefore sparing the RS ones from track hammering.

Two questions.

1) How can I stop the remaining alloys from going the same way, waxes, sealants, more clearcote, clear powdercoat (if it exists), I have even thought of using a paintshield film of some description on the spokes?

2) What refurbishment techniques have been tried or are available?

Steve Mc at JZM was talking about them really needing anodising like the old Fuch alloys.

I was thinking that a strip down, polish and then red powdercoat, with a clear lacquer covering the silver parts.
Anodising?
Strip down and paint?

Or just sod it and get my standard mk2 alloys powdercoated to look like the RS?

Help appreciated

Thanks

lol.

Diamond Styling are apparently very good at this. Pricey though.

You could as easily get your track wheels done and leave these ones to see how they go as I think they strip to bare metal whatever.

I hope that soon this wont be a problem as Porsche are being taken to task over this issue.
Until then you have two options which at some point you WILL have to take up because these wheels really are a PITA.
1. Diamond Styling (expensive)
2. NEW wheels (VERY expensive)
Thanks to Parr's generosity I was able to go for option 1 at massively reduced cost. I was shocked at the result. My wheels came back looking new and, as far as I was concerned, near enough indistinguishable from the stock finish. Be advised DS dont AFAIK replicate the alachrome (?) plating from the factory. In fact I dont know what they do. Another storey but Flemke bowled over (in his F1!) and had a look at them and said the shiney bits weren't quite as shiny as stock but I personally can't tell. When washed they look great. Even the guys at Porsche Reading were amazed.
Downside £350 + VAT per wheel, I think. Confirm with diamond styling.

Im seriously considering a set of BBS's and painting the centres red and leave the outside polished.

Where's Tim C?

Are Flemke's alloys corroding? Thought his RS lived in a carcoon!

£350 per wheel YIKES, will probably live with them and do something akin to what Glenn Mc did to his Mk2 wheels (but red) with my standard alloys.

with regards Porsche being taken to task, I can't beleive they are recalling and replacing 997GT3 wheels for a small (mm) difference on some cap fittings and not standing by the corrosion on the RS wheels, mind you if BBS are bust!

They don't have the polished chrome looking rim of the RS's, just a normal silver, like the standard
MKII's wheels..

i just used a local wheel refurber in Milton Keynes called Wicked Wheels..(i think it is a franchise)

I should think any wheel refurber could do it, the hardest part is doing a good job of masking around the bend
on the bottom of the spokes where the Red meets the Silver, as this is done by hand.

Poon, your car looked mint in the pics. Those wheels (one) have started to "craze" without much use apparently!?

Glenn, that is what I was thinking of doing to my spare MK2 wheels, cheers

Graham, yes the wheels corrode easily, basically Porsche are deserting their customers over wat is clearly a problem with the wheels. They all go like this so I chose to ignore it when deciding to buy the car.

Im currently using a solicitor to write to Porsche over my GT3 RS wheels
it shocking that a wheel corrodes after 18months on a 90K car
the metal specialist said it was the amount of lacquer which Porsche used on the wheel
it is a BBS manufactured wheel
you dont get this corrosion from a Turbo Wheel from 2003 so why is it just the RS wheels

Fit for purpose !!!! - Bollo*

My blue RS wheels are in a box as Im afraid to put them on the car !!!!

Anyway - My Solictor has written to Windleking,Goss and the Marketing Dept so lets see what happens

Ah that sounds more like it. I was digging for the address last night and came up with the above, but was a bit confused as I recalled them being in Kent.

That North London address certainly looks like an old one judging by the format of the phone number.
