Good evening!

Just wanted to canvas the opinion of the Porsche collective here as to the value of a service book. I've just set my heart on a Boxster S which has had all of its work done at an OPC and has all the bills to prove it.

However it doesn't have the service book with the stamps in it. Now I've spoken to one of my local OPC's where the car has had it's 48k service and 2 people there have told me that they will stamp it and send it to the other dealers where it was serviced.

How would you feel about buying a car like this, knowing everything has been done, and has the bills to show this, but not the actual book.

thumbup!!

I'd have no problem with that .. But I'd want a discount , seeing as the guy who'll (eventually) buy the same car from me will be looking for same...

Hi mate

What you have said wouldnt bother me but I know that alot of people are funny about these things and it will put some off. You may find that when it comes to re-sale time that it takes a bit longer to sell tis all.

If you like it and are hapopy with it having a copy book then go for it and enjoy.

An original book with the sticker in is preferable, but a duplicate with all work documented and stamped up is fine. Try to make sure the supplying dealer stamps the inside front page showing the PDI stamp.

Surely you would rather have a load of invoices and no service book, rather than a service book and no invoices if you had the choice? I knew of an *insert well known German manufacturer* technician, who would stamp for the book for a fiver a stamp if you wanted a full *as above* service history....

Granted that you can probably find out the service history via the network computer, but that assumes that the car has been main dealer serviced at all times.....

caveat emptor and all that.

Cheers for the feedback, I'm in the same boat, if it had a service book but no bills I'd be more worried. Every other box is ticked.

One more thing, what is the air mass sensor? This has been replaced, is this a good thing or would it highlight a potential source of problems for you?

They fail frequently and are inexpensive and easy to change. If it's been done, you may never need to do it but nothing's certain (other than it shouldn't be a cause for concern about the car in question).

£250 for a bit of plastic and wire seems anything but inexpensive to me. Especially when they go so frequently.

the OPC at Reading have told me that with the invoices it can be done, so that's good enough for me.
