Any suggestions on a good independent in the Midlands please?

The nearest that I know of, though I know nothing of them other than that they exist, is Shirley Motors at Meriden.

The 987 will be under warranty for a long time yet but I figure it never hurts to plan and it's always useful to know these things.

Midlands is quite a large area - can you be more specific?

Zentrum in Notts.

GCR in Leicester.

But it depends on car also....

Martin at Porschetech, which shares premises with Shirleys of Meriden, seems to have a good reputation judging by what I've read about him. No personal experience though.

I've seen PCT (which shares premises with Autobahn in Coventry) mentioned as being good but expensive - Pickled Piper will be able to give you chapter and verse as I think he has used them in the past.

Did someone mention my name?

PCT based at the Autobahn site in Coventry are very good. Good team of Guys that know their Porsches well and they are all enthusiasts. They are however very expensive. £68+VAT per hour. Not up to the OPC rate but not as cheap as some other Indy rates.

Like someone else stated the Midlands is a big place. Where exactly are you?

The other options are PorscheTec based at Shirleys in Meriden. It's a one man band. I've heard a lot of good things about PorscheTec but despite visiting twice I never managed to get a response on pricing so I gave up and went back to PCT.

I've visited Porscheshop in Halesowen but have no actual experience.

I can also recommend Martin at Porschetec (Shirleys). I take mine there every year and is always helpful, but I do agree that it is quite hard to get a price out of him before any work is done.

PH Sportscars at Shardlow, near J24 of the M1. Know their stuff and labour charges are extremely low. I have used them for years & have always been very pleased.

Another vote for PCT. Very knowledgeable, old-fashioned quality and service from 3 guys who own 911s. It's where I take mine. Ex-Land Rover dealership premises, so nice workshop - clean, tidy, professional.

Martin at Porschetech is the opposite; I don't doubt his knowledge and expertise, but I want my pride and joy to be looked after somewhere nice, not somewhere that looks like a junk yard. No offense.

Last time I collected my car from PCT, I spent a good hour chatting with Simon about all things pork- very happy with the work and the service.

PCT autobahn would get my vote they offer good customer service and work hard to obtain repeat business.

The other advantage with PCT is that you can nip next door to the Autobahn showroom, drink their frothy coffee and eat their mints. it's very much like being at an OPC.
