Chelse football match photgraphy
Discussion
Im off to see Chelsea play Middlesborough on Saturday, Got good seats and want to take the camera to see if I can get some good shots. Anyone know what the rules are regarding taking cameras in to matches. Want to take the D70s with a nikor 70-300mm lens... Worried about it being confiscated... Is it best to just smuggle it in under the big coat?
I was told to put my 70-300 away, I pointed out there were (a) other people taking photo's with compacts & mobiles (b) a bl00dy competition running a Chelsea's club magazine for best photo from a match! 'too big' seemed to be the problem
You'll probably have problems. Besides, you should be watching the game

If it's for your own you legally shouldn't have any problems.
Except for the fact that the game is being held on private property so they can impose whatever condition they want on allowing you access. In fact, I'm pretty sure that standard FA rules don't allow photography by anyone except licensed persons - and even many pro photographers find it hard to get licenses as the conditions are pretty strict. In practice, if it's clear you're doing it for your own use they might let you, but an SLR with 300mm might look a liitle "pro" to many people.
If you get pictures of Shevchenko scoring a hatrick nobody's going to believe your pics are for real anyway.
I had a corporate freebie for the Chelsea/Wigan game a few weeks back and was given a comprehensive search before entry, they had a good look at the point n shoot I was carrying but allowed me and the camera in.

As previously mentioned give them a call before you go to make sure. If they say ok, ask them to send you an email that you can print and produce if stopped on the way in. Also as said above, there are plenty of people taking compact cameras into the grounds. At the Arsenal vs Man U match the other week, flashes were going off all over the ground.
I have taken my Panasonic FZ50 into Stamford Bridge many times. Not a problem....

I used my 70-300 when at the stoop for a Harlequins match no problem. I even used the same lense for baseball games in America. If it's for your own you legally shouldn't have any problems.
Ditto Stradey Park with a white Canon 300m F4 L. It does say no cameras on the ticket but I was waving it about on the terrace without problems all afternoon.http://www.flickr.com/photos/surfr/tags/stradey/

Buy another SLR, tape them together; if asked claim they are binoculars
