How about an electric TVR?????
Discussion
You know as companies are about to unveil electric cars based on Lotus, how about TVRs.
Well certainly the bonnet is long enough to stick a load of duracells under it, and you'd avoid the congestion charge if you were in London.
Plus it would have green credentials
Can we please factor this in to the plane to resuscitate tvr??

TVRs are bought primarily because they are Light, Fast and most importantly LOUD. Will an electric TVR sell? You do the math.....
I think the sound may be the hardest barrier to overcome.
But then again the prius sells and there are very strong rumors of electric sports cars
Well look here is the lotus in the news:-

is the sound that big a part of the experience if the performance is the same????

I know you must have meant well but the sound is very definitely the thing. I suppose you could allways do what we used to do as kids and put flattened cigarette pack into the brake callipers on our bikes to make them sound like motorbikes, but somehow i don't think it would be quite the same thing with a TVR.

TUT TUT TUT
Electric is OK for a bog standard A-B car, providing A isnt far from B! TVR aint no A-B car though, people buy them for the noise, the smell maybe, the way the power is delivered, the speed etc and i guess the replies you got spell this out!
. Mitsubishi have demonstrated electric hub motors on their EVO i think, i guess thats the closest you get to sporty car/electric combination.
Question is the overall detrimental environmental effect of producing running and scrapping and electric car suuficiently less than a petrol powered one anyway?
Let the big boys put those in their hatchbacks first and we'll stick to petroleum.

Agreed, but they wouldn't have a TVR badge unless they were loud, both visually AND aurally. I was exchanging emails last night with some of the guys with whom I usually go to Le Mans - I'm not going this year (been 9 times out of the last 10), partly because of the race (pun intended) to diesel cars. The Audi (diesel) that won last year was, in my eyes, bollox because it did not have the soundtrack of a real sports car. I'm not interested in seeing a diesel car take the podium again (particularly as the Audi to$$ers deliberately covered their cars in the pits on the Monday morning to prevent anyone having a bit of a peek). Crawling over all the cars either during the race or after was always a key reason for me going, but if more teams are going to be as paranoid as Audi because of the race for diesels, I really can't be ar$ed.
So, would I buy an electric sports car? No way, not as long as the option for 'proper' sports cars still exists.

Exactly.
I laugh at people who think electric cars are really green. Where does the electricity come from when they charge up .... mostly fossil fuel power stations which would have to work even harded if more people switch to electric cars!!!
One day and probably in our lifetimes, it will happen. We will have to drive non-petrol powered cars. I dont think electric is the answer though. Possibly hybrid with fuel cell/hydrogen.
We will all miss the internal combustion engine and our noisey TVR's
