I have been thinking about buying a 5D for a couple of months, recently I have noticed the price dropping. Does anybody know if it is likely to be replaced soon (and therefore drop further) ?

Is the sun in the sky?

Sorry, I'm of no help and can't help on the Canon fodder, but you can bet your camshaft that every DSLR will be replaced often and sooner than you think and prices for all models will tumble. Just depends how long you want to hang around I guess. My first Pro Nikon cost £4000 and I threw it away last year (literally) as it had a slight fault (i.e. write off) . rolleyes

Stop being tight just go and buy it, and next year when you upgrade (again), I can buy it off you for peanuts!

David

That's the site I have been looking at, it has dropped £300 in the last couple of weeks (with 24-105), just trying to gauge the time to buy. Tomorrow or wait till next week. I've got a 10D somewhere that I can do you a deal on thumbup

Only way to buy dSLR's is for itself, at its current price.

There will always be a better model, unless you know when & for how much just forgetaboutit, a nwe model doesnt mean the old one is any less competent.

But.. IMO the 5D is due a refresh, but then again so is the 30d & 1d and its unlike canon to do them all at once.

Canon seem to do their announcements on either the 3rd week in August, or 3rd week in February. Surely it is worth waiting a fortnight?

I would have thought that the 1DS MkII would be up for replacement before the 5D so if there's been a drop in the 5D that'll probably be it for now. There's always one or two that Canon have refurbished on their ebay outlet

I bought mine off the eBay outlet - they seemed to go for around £300 less than the cheapest retail.

Condition was exactly as described; can recomend them.

Oh - and it's an awesome camera with good glass.
