I have had to move house and no longer have room for my Yamaha floorstanders. I am making do with some awful "JPW" things which I bought 5 years ago second hand, off someone who bought them for £30 in Richer Sounds paperbag. They sound terrible like I can't begin to describe. So I think I deserve an upgrade. I'd rather not splash out on new ones just now, I will save that until I can spend more, so would anyone sell me something around the £50-200 mark? I've been to Richer sounds but wasn't inspired. I'm aiming above the usual Eltax and Mission fare if at all possible. Some Tannoy Revolutions are tempting - a friend had R3s which were great. I'm not going to risk ebay with speakers!

Fingers crossed for some response!
Recommendations welcome too. I was just getting a warm feeling looking at some Tannoy R3s. Sad.

Wrong forum but right person.

Monitor Audio do some BLISTERINGLY good small speakers. If you can find any second hand they are great.

I didn't know which forum to use... "computers and stuff" is 99% computer stuff. I figured some of the video/photo bods here might be audio bods too!

Thanks for the monitor audio recommendation. Are they good enough to double as rear speakers when I get back to my full surround setup?

I'm not sure about what goes down the wire to rear speakers so wouldn't like to comment. I have the bronze B4's and here are the reviews (scroll down the list for AV reviews).

Good luck

Exactly the same as the other wires - electrons

Rears and centres don't have any specific requirements basically. Although people make specific rears and centres (ie small, wall mountable, one-offs for centres rather than pairs etc etc) the "science" is the same.

I was just worried the power handling of some small monitor speakers might not be up to being cranked up for home cinema usage.. wouldn't want to break them!

With home cinema it's the front centre and sub that do 90% of the work. Unless your front room is the size of Westminster Cathedral they'll cope with no problems.

Martin.

PS - having said that I've got 4 chuffing big Mission floorstanders for the front and rear. evil
