Hi,
I've seen pictures of cars on the internet with aftermarket chargecoolers for G body Turbo Esprits. Who makes these? Does anyone have any experience with these/know where I can get one?
Thank you
Dan

Dan,

The only ones I've seen are either air to air intercoolers (no real cost/benefit here) or involve lots of additional plumbing and the loss of the A/C so that the condenser can be enlisted to cool the charge coolant. Both were custom fabbed.

My question is why do you need one? How much boost are you planning on running? The limiting factor is going to be the Citroen SM gearbox, which can't take too much additional HP without some catastrophic results.

There are other ways to go. The best performance increase will come from porting the head, next, a slightly more aggressive cam will put a few more ponies in the stable. Re-jet the dellortos from 0.52 to 0.62 (idle jets). Finally, a switch to a forged alloy piston will raise the CR from 7.5:1 to 8.5:1.

I performed these mods, along with switching to a colder plug which allowed me to recalibrate the wastegate to allow 0.69Bar of boost (10.0PSI) vs the stock 0.55Bar (8.0PSI) and I have no trouble with detonation at all. My '85 Esprit Turbo will run with the SE's and I'm not jeopardizing the gearbox. Something to consider. Happy Motoring! Jim'85TE
