I want to get my wheels both aligned and balanced, which I understand is a specialist activity and not for the likes of Kwik-Fit.

Anyone know of someone who can do that in the Kent/East Sussex area?

I know this one is not in Kent, but its well worth traveling for, as they have all the latest lazer equipment, www.super-tyres.co.uk.
I know of someone who came down from manchester to use them for his Sagaris. He went home a happy chappie!! i also know of lots of other happy TVR owners that have used them. Past users of Supertyres please feel free to add to this post.

Its all very well having an lazer alignment done, but they need to have the correct settings.

Personally I would drop Gazman a line who will point you in the right direction for someone to do a setup. From my understanding he is doing some clinics around the country at various well known locations in the next few months.

There is alway Jools as well .... I must admit I don't know him but I do here good things.

On the balancing front, depending on which wheels you have, try to find someone who can do invisible balancing. I us TW tyres in Rugby. Their balancing machine can be programmed with the position of the spokes and all balance weights hidden behind them, so no weights are visible. Works well with Spiders, (7 spokes) but I guess the fewer spokes, the more difficult it is. I tried several fitters before finding someone with the correct balancing machine.

Another vote for RG here - they did my Tusc which transformed its stability on the road and that is with standard shocks etc. Well worth doing on a regular basis I reckon.

Afternoon Everyone !

Interest Declaration : TVR Sale Manager at Racing Green Cars !
.
Racing Green TVR can offer you full Beissbarth 4 wheel laser alignment and we do of course have the settings for all TVR models. Equally importantly, we have 4 engineers fully trained to use the system, and who understand exactly what effect variations in track, camber and castor will have on the car's handling. So - within reason - we can set your car up to suit your requirements.

We charge £150 + VAT for a full 4 wheel alignment

We use 2 very expensive pieces of equipment when changing or balancing tyres. The first is a Hunter GSP 9700 Road Force Vibration Eliminator. In a nutshell this uses a roller to drive the wheel and tyre assembly, rather than a centre spindle. The result is that the assembly is assessed under load, which ensures that any imbalance and lack of concentricity in either the wheel and/or the tyre can be identified and compensations introduced. The Hunter will identify the best relationship between the wheel and the tyre to minimise the amount of weight required to achieve perfect balance. And, as previously mentioned by another contributor, it will define the positions (behind spokes) where the weight should be added. If you would like to read more about the Hunter, please try this link:

We use a Butler Airdraulic Profi to reposition tyres or remove and refit them. This machine avoids any damage being caused to the alloys or the tyres. In addition it uses nitrogen to inflate the tyres. Nitrogen reduces the amount of tyre pressure change when the tyres get hotter. It also has other advantages which are actually more relevant to racing than to road use.

We charge £15 + VAT for each TVR wheel we balance.

By the way, we also refurbish Spider alloys in a new finish, which we call Shadow Chrome and which is proving very popular, for just £95 + VAT. This figure includes the tyre swop and balance.

I hope that the above is non-contentious and helpful info !!

No advertising in the forums please. hehe

I didn't know you can adjust the castor on a TVR, just toe and camber.

How's that done?

My Tuscan is in Dream Machines this week for 12K service and alignement/tracking. They tell me that there is a factory mod that improves the "jumping around" no end. Not sure what it consists of but trying it anyway.
Will let you know over the weekend when I get it back.

Right...have driven 50 miles or so on badly surfaced country roads back from Dream Machines....the difference is amazing. Total bill for the parts and labour was £200, work consisted of 1.75 hours labour plus parts plus VAT
No more iron grip on the wheel and white knuckles.eek A much better settled ride and car does not tram-line like it used to.
Well recommended.
