I have been cogitating with regards to a potential future OPC purchasing strategy.

Given the following hypothetical situation:

One wishes to purchase a used 997 which an OPC is retailing at £55k. However, one is only prepared to pay £50k for the unit in question. Therefore, one proceeds to make an offer of £50k for the unit and a £1.5k goodwill gesture to the OPC sales manager. As a result, one acquires a unit for £1.5k above trade value with full OPC warranty and associated OPC checks.

Is this feasible or has one observed a few apparitions?

One would probably be told that these cars are walking out on their own, and one can go forth and fornicate with oneself

You are presuming the trade bid is 50k because the dealer is selling at 55k..if they are selling at 55k there is no way they would buy that car for 50k..45k probably is their buying level. You wont be able to buy that car for 51.5k with an option of selling back to them at 50k if you lose interest in it..knowing most dealers sniffing out the unhappy seller a tasty 43k bid would be more likely.

Are you suggesting a £1,500 back hander to the salesman to sell it to you cheaply? If so, I don't think it'll work.

However, they might be able to put you in touch with someone looking to sell privately that isn't happy with the trade-in price they've been offered by the dealer, and so help the dealer sell a car they would not have done otherwise.

Essentially though, if you want an OPC car, you have to buy legitimately from a main dealer. That's not to say it would be impossible to buy a 997 advertised at £55k for £51,500 if you have no trade-in, and take their finance package etc.

One can easily acquire trade values simply by phoning several OPCs stating that one has a car to sell (i.e. the car one is interested in purchasing) and as to what they would be prepared to pay.

In addition, one could request to analyse the relevant OPC documents which details the ‘buy-in price’ and OPC sales preparation costs incurred for a small cash fee.

Baz, would you put your job/career/prospects etc on the line for a 1500 quid backhander?
