There's been a bit of talk on site about coolant spills/usage , and I'm hoping the more technical among you can answer a few wee questions ..

How would I know if my car has the old or new improved cap?

Can I order the new one on line? (and will it fit on the threads of my exesting coolant header?)

I've had a glance at the cap in recent days , and it looks like there's an overpressure valve built into the underside of it .. Is there any way of checking to see if it works okay? .. It looks like the 'mesh' part pushes into the cap under pressure , if it's moving freely , can I assume that the valve is operating properly?

I wish I didn't lie awake at night thinking about such inconsequentials ..

1. Ring your dealer and ask the parts dept

2. Haven't got a clue, but don't be so lazy Pretty sure the thread is the same otherwise everyone would be replacing header tanks that didn't require replacement.

3. Not sure how you test the cap blow off pressure

4 Try www.boots.com/shop/product_list_new_template.jsp?classificationid=1026771 hehe

Yes - the new cap will fit the old header tank (well it did on mine ...)

I got it from my local OPC and it was only about £10-15 if I remember correctly.

Thanks for the replies folks (well .. Most of em anyway!)..

I'm an 00 unfortunately ..

Looks like I also have the slightest of leaks .. I'm filling coolant at the rate of about half a cup full every month or so .. There's no sign of header leakage and no sludge in the header or under the cap (well , no more so than usual!!)..
