....were the point that captured the Press interest in the early days of TVR. Whilst you won't find them at the Thunder Ball, here is some information about what you will find......

The organising team of the Thunder Ball has finally had a chance to stand back, draw breath and respond to feedback received to what's going on. It has become apparent that there may be a few misconceptions to do with the decision to hold a party for the workforce from the funds raised by so many kind donations from the London Thunder event, so we'd like to tell you all about the decisions made.

Cross sections of the workforce were consulted as to how they would most like to see the funds used. The majority stated that a big party would be the nicest gesture of support, although only if the party was for the workforce and TVR owners/enthusiasts alike, as the feeling of camaraderie was such during the LT2006 event that it felt like being part of a family. The alternative suggestion from a minority of the workforce was to split up the money raised and distribute vouchers to the entire workforce. Although this was an admirable suggestion, less than £30 would have been passed to each of the workforce in total (less if vouchers had been handed out for Christmas, as some money from the auction had not been received until after Christmas and so the final figure could not be calculated until 9 January), and indeed a number were not comfortable with the idea of “charity hand-outs”. So this is why a majority of the workforce - no-one else - chose a party that would give the workforce and their spouses/partners lasting happy memories spent with their colleagues and people who drive the cars built with their passion and commitment. Was this the right decision? Clearly, given that over 300 workforce/guests have so far confirmed their attendance.

So where to hold this event? There is no question that the location of the event had to be Blackpool, and it had to be a large enough venue to cope with the predicted numbers based on the level of support that London Thunder generated, hence the Winter Gardens was chosen. The Empress Ballroom is a fabulous location and is a fitting venue for such an important event (www.wintergardensblackpool.co.uk/Empressballroom.html).

The money raised through London Thunder has been spent on the venue, buffet, fabulous live music (www.the-kommitments.co.uk/sounds.htm), DJ and essentials such as insurance, security, invites etc.

The bulk of every ticket sold will go towards funding the evening for the workforce and their guests, and the remainder will pay for the buffet for each paying guest.

As per the LT2006 event, there has been a great deal of effort going on behind the scenes by the organisers. Please note that none of the organisers are getting any financial gain from this (or previous) events and all will be paying full price for tickets for themselves and their guests.

With the tragic announcement of the closure of Bristol Avenue after the initial arrangements had been made, the purpose of this event has grown into the owners/enthusiasts making sure that the TVR workforce has the party to end all parties to celebrate all of their past achievements and to wish them well whatever the future may hold. Make no mistake, the workforce really wants as many owners/enthusiasts as possible to attend - remember the 3 November rally and London Thunder? - and we must not let these very special people down.

Please feel free to ask any questions or post any feedback, as the organisers are keen to ensure that there are no misconceptions or misunderstandings that would inappropriately influence your support and commitment.

If you are unable to attend, then there is a donations thread where you can contribute to the drinks fund for the workforce and their guests (www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?t=342369&f=13&h=0&p=1). There are no plans to have any other Thunder events, so all monies raised will be used on the night.

We hope to have a capacity crowd in for the night and hope to give the TVR workforce the send-off they deserve - PLEASE THEREFORE GIVE THEM YOUR SUPPORT AS THEY WANT YOU THERE!

As a final comment, as a group, this is to be our final gesture for the workforce. We feel privileged that they chose to share the donated money with the TVR owners and enthusiasts who have offered their support to them over the past months. This is of course, the true Spirit of TVR.

Great post Julian, well said. Mind you, I can't see how anyone might be "against" the idea or confused as to the reasons/decisions taken etc. Seems to me that there are a lot of good folks putting a lot of effort into this for everyone's benefit - I guess it is a case of "you can please some of the people all of the time.....etc, etc".

Nice one all! Can't wait!

That is the crux of this.

If we don't make an effort and give these people a rowsing send off then there will not be another chance

Spread the word, it's gonna be a cracker

I promise not to try and sell you any vinyls on the night

Thanks for the post, Brent - it (and the others, of course) are very much appreciated by the team. clap

I posted on another thread that although I've never met you, you're a legend in my eyes. I visited the factory many times as I live close by - half a dozen times at least when our Tam was being built - and your logo always made me smile. With no disrespect to the others preparing the body shells, who are ALL top people, I must admit I was a little disappointed that you didn't prepare the body for our Tam. However, whoever prepared the body of course did a fabulous job. clap

I look forward to meeting you, and of course everyone from the factory and their guests, on 10 Feb - it will be a special evening for special people. clap
