morning all,

i am planning on entering a competition for dental students where you have to submit a photo that would make a good postcard adn the winner gets a nice 3 day holiday to new york with a helicopter flight. the only problem is, i dont know which of my photos to choose.

oh, and most of these have only had a cursory photoshop, so i would ofcourse spend more time on that later.

cheers

No.6 would be the best postcard for me.

If you can seamlessly photoshop a sign saying 'NO SEAGULLS' then it'd be number 6 for me. Otherwise the rose would probably sell best.

I really like number 3 - great, clear shot!

I think your portrait ones don't work as well (as postcards) as your landscape ones. However as photographs I really like them!

Number 2 I reckon, with the addition of a corny caption in Comic Sans Something like "ANOTHER filling? Boring..."

Yeah I know it's tacky, but tacky sells

cool. cheers for the input guys.

for the 2nd one, i dont think they would like a dentistry related caption that much as they are claiming the rights of the photo for postcard use, so i guess they would want one that has a wide audience.

any more for any more?

Fair enough but it's crying out for a caption in the "oh I cant be bothered" vein for sale in Athena, Clinton et al. Maybe not a postcard then, but a greetings card.

what if i was able to photoshop out the van in 7 and replace it with something more suited for that road (eg a miura). maybe with a tighter crop. would that sell (or is it just my petrolheadedness shining through?)

Probably cause more indecision, but good luck with asking for the PH massive opinion!!!

3 and 5 would be my favourites, from a commercial postcard point of view.

I love the seagull one personally though

No help at all I know, but great photos

ok, seeing as quite a few people have said they like number 3. do you think it would benefit from a slightly tighter crop?

right. as per my post above, do you think 3 is better as before or like this? (slightly tighter crop):

and if you are interested, this is what it looks like at 100%:

im quite impressed with myself that i managed to be so accurate with the focus (especially as the lens used (70-300) means that you cant get less than about 7 feet away from the subject!

I like the original incarnation, to be honest; it's much more 'postcard shape'. A lovely shot either way
