Recently needed a replacement alternator fitted - old one completely burnt out.
Car back and sounding much quieter and running/charging well. However the rev counter is all over the place sometimes reading 4500 when idling, and setting off the change up light when cruising at 70/80 in fifth.
Could a spike from the alternator be doing this (being changed anyway) or could I be looking at something more serious, also if I was overtaking at a true 6000 revs and got a false reading over the red line would the rev limiter cut in? Any thoughts?

Try these guys:

www.speedycables.com/

I used them to fix my 993 speedo and they were very good.
