997 Sports Exhaust
Discussion
I now this topic has been touched many times before but what do you get with the sports exhaust for a 997S if you have it fitted at the dealer and not as part of your options list. I'm just considereing this at the moment but at 1700 quid for supply and fit do you only get the exhaust?

Buy it , you wont regret it. BTW it was 1500 for mine for my 996 , I saved 600 quid. So for a 997 it's cheaper. Give Stratford OPC a call I am sure you will get it for less than 1700 quid.

Actually 1700 is right, I just called the East London OPC for you. You will love it if you have it done. Spend 20 quid and have the cut out switch taken off though too from an Indy .

I managed to source a brand new exhaust through a Porsche parts specialist and had it fitted(without switch)for £950.It improves the exhaust note no end-without being too loud.
Sounds a good price. Good thing is that there is no drone at all with the PSE. Infact inside you can only hear it is a sports exhaust if you put your foot down. Open windows is a different matter though and I have mine open all the time now
Is there any cut out on yours or was that taken off?

There is no cut off because it is not wired up(the valve remains open(or is that closed!)at all times). My car is a cab and when the roof is down you can appreciate the noise more.
I've been debating the PSE or aftermarket exhaust situation for months and have still not come to a suitable conclusion.....
Whilst searching though I came across this offering .....
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Porsche-911-997for a 997 soundfile look at the link below.

Now it would seem that all this company has done is to take the standard muffler boxes weld an additional pipe between the exhaust inlet and exit pipes on the muffler box ....... £300 which is a damn sight cheaper than the PSE.....hmmmm
If you took your own boxes to an aftermarket exhaust manufacturer I'm sure they would charge a lot less to do the same thing ...Only downside is that it is not switchable...but then again sports exhausts are there to be heard aren't they....

Ut of interest, what is the cut out switch? Is that the on/off button itself or something that stops the exhaust being too loud when it is in loud mode?

it cuts in at about 30 -45 approx. even though it is on loud it makes the exhaust go back to being quiet , its well annoying. i sorted mine straight away.

Well I've taken the plunge and ordered the exhaust. Its being fitted next Thursday at Cardiff OPC - hope I'm not going to be disappointed.
Sure you won't be, but let us know what you think when it's fitted. What was the deal in the end ? Was it the £1,700 they originally quoted ?

Given the £1700 cost and that most have them permanently on loud I am surprised more do not get the PSE fitted by an indy without the dash switch and save 50%
When you come to sell though some people may like the option.
I've heard of people choosing colours based on ease of resale but a button on the dash?!?! You certainly are unlikely to lose the sale or £900 IMHO
Hayward & Scott will build you one for much cheaper...
