Hi all,

Practical Performance Car magazine are putting together a DIY Supercars feature. We have use of Bedford Autodrome next week and are intending to shoot the feature at this location (exact date TBC). We have GT40 and Lola T70 reps coming along, possibly a Ferrari P4 rep and a couple of others to be confirmed. We'd also quite like to include an Ultima of one sort or another!

If anyone could point us in the direction of where we might be able to source a suitable car, it would be much appreciated...

please someone let them borrow a car! Evo wanted to use one for one of these features but the factory said they didn't have one in the "right spec"! lol

hope someone is kind enough, i really look forward to reading the feature.

Chris.

Apparently the factory do not have a demonstrator available at the moment and wont have for a couple of weeks yet.
Surely they would be better of getting in on the act at the ground floor giving themselves a beneficial sales pitch platform rather than an independent builder putting their own spin on things don't you think?

i agree! but you have to remeber that PPC is a very indavidual mag and one that inbrases peoples interpritations of what "should be". still think the factories demo car would be better. would give the readers a more whats on offer idea.

thanks Chris.

I've never seen an Ultima in a group test, never seen one actually tested anywhere apart from a straight line.

I'd be very interested to see how a stock, factory Ultima stacks up against current supercars on track.

This feature is not to be so much of a test as an article on "DIY Supercars" and as I have been led to believe will focus on the individual types of self build cars available for anyone that has a mind to DIY.

Cheers for the response (both forum and email, sorry I've not replied to all...)

Wayne got his foot in the door almost immediately, so if he can make the shoot we'll use his car. If this won't be possible once the exact date is confirmed (hopefully this morning) we'll still be looking.

The factory demonstrator is not available next week, and we need to shoot this ASAP.

Toby - what do you plan to do with the car and what specifically is the article going to cover ?

As I said, the article is to show what can be achieved and although I did not physically build the majority of the car, I spec'd the build, found the right people, collated the parts (including a trip to the States to buy in person) paid the money and generally made it happen. I have said in the past that I do regret not having a go at building the thing myself but as a result of assuming the position that I have with regards to the project, I have endeed up with an end product that is way beyond my humble abilities and feel that although was not hands on as most others have been, different skills have been fettled and maybe this school of thought can be relayed to perspective owners that are not capable or just plane do not want or have the time (that was me) to build the car themselves.

Would be good to know where and when if this happens.... come and wave, support etc..... It would be good to get a "nice" car featured...but..... if they want an old one with loads of spare parts left over from the build, one with all the extras (heater with on AND off switch) and one that is the correct colour... let me know!

Paul, do you have a spare coupe hard top (parts left over)? and are you saying that at long last you have seen the dark and "hued up" your motor to a much superior tone?
The intended venue for the feature is Bruntingthorpe but I do not know the date yet.

P.S. I don't know that it has been mentioned before but:BLACK IS BOSS! and even MORE proof is on the way

So its a brunters eh.... well Wayne I expect to see reports of you cracking 200mph down the straight. Anything less and me & clive will be round to conviscate the car and spray it a proper colour lol.

Paul, I spotted you on the Donnington Add for later this year, is yours the Ultima most used in advertising? it seems to be everyware.

I take it from the comment above they only want one of each mark present. Perhaps someone with a CanAm should point out the difference to Toby so that both models can be represented.
