Well, I've had an offer for the TVR wedge (for sale in classifides).
I had an email from a guy (in Canada) discussing the price etc and now we are agreed, he has contacted the car importer he will be using - JDM Cars ( www.jdmcars.ca/ ).

I have since had an email from the importer saying he wants to pick the car up.

Obviously, I am very cautions and well aware it could be a scam, but it could also be genuine.

Firstly,
Has anyone heard of JDM car importers? and secondly,
If I will only take cash on collection, what other scams could such con-men be up to?

Cheers,
L33.

If it's cash just be sure it's not funny money but can't see a shipping company paying cash on collection as he will just appoint them to collect and ship it i personally would insist on a bank draft and the car released once funds cleared it's way of the world unfortunately

A bankers draft is the last thing I'd accept as there are so many dodgy ones out there.
Cash only in my book.

Bankers draft are still one of the safest ways but as i said let nothing go until your funds are clear in the bank

Even after they've cleared they can still be cancelled and you can be asked for the cash back.

I would have thought you'd be safe with cash and take the normal precautions with regard to the registration certificate. Other wise be very wary of banker's drafts as other posters have warned. You could possibly check the buyer's credibility by finding out how much he has researched importing a specialist UK car into Canada. I know Canadian rules are quite strict, particularly concerning crash testing and emissions. Although yours might be old enough to escape the rules, he should have checked it.

This TVR is old enough to be brought into Canada no problem (anything over 15yrs). So it isn't impossible.

Have you called someone at the importer to talk directly to them? You should be able to get a feeling for them that way. How about getting a list of people they have brought cars in for and talking to them? I'd say that this sounds pretty legit, of course you need to get a reasonably secure form of payment (ie don't take an IOU...).

Good luck, awesome to hear of another TVR heading to these shores.
