Anyone had any dealings with elephant.co.uk or know of insurers who will insure 2 cars on same policy.
Elephant price is good for 1 off payment and will give full no claims on a second car as well but on separate policy.

Thanks in advance of new car arriving

I used them for the VW Corrado I had about 4 years ago. They were ok and were the cheapest at the time. Then the car got nicked and they said they would only pay what the book value was (I think quite a lot of insurers will only do this). I argued that they should pay me replacement cost as that's what it would cost me to buy another one (the Corrado VR6 Storms, wot I had (lovely cars), were trading at a premium to book value). We met somewhere round the middle I think in the end and I don't recall it being too painful.

Hope this helps,

R
PS I'm with Admiral now, again because they were cheapest. They seem ok too (not had car nicked yet though touch wood!).

According to the policy, Elephant offer market value where 'market' is the market you would usually purchase your car. As OPC vs. private is going to be 8k or so difference this is a very vague statement. I would specify your usual 'market' to them if it's OPC/dealer. Additionaly the conditions state they only pay what they determine the value to be in that 'market'.

Thanks for clarifying- I couldn't remember what the policy wording said. Think I did the usual and didn't really get round to reading it until I had to claim...

Ah sorry, that was more for the other Richard. I wasn't trying to point it out to you after your unfortunate theft!

I was talked in to taking out GAP insurance when I bought my 997 which takes the worry out of what the pay-out will be if the worst happens!

market value is a bit worrying - the parkers prices were a load of rubbish ( miles too low) compared to what both private and OPC wanted.

I expect the market could well be a long way shy of what I would want. I will discuss this but will also be offered GAP insurance by the dealer as well.

What you want is agreed value upfront with a premium insurer like Chubb

There was another thread recently about insurance. My advice remains not to skimp on cover for your p&j.

CHUBB gets another vote from me. Apart from all the other benefits (free legal cover, courtesy cars, fully comp on any car, etc etc) I also have 'an agreed valuation' protection. Quite simply if the car gets nicked or written off they will pay me the price of the car as I bought it and not current market value.

90% of cars insured by Elephant, Tesco, etc are "normal" cars. Go with someone who is used to dealing with "special" cars.

The best quote so far on my impending GT3 is from Michael Ward Associates. Quoted £1225 to £1325 depending on an excess of £750 to £450 respectively, with different combos in between.
Added bonuses are - Agreed value of purchase price even if car is written-off on the 364th day of policy. Also no NCB required enabling use as a second car whilst retaining NCB on everyday car.

Does this sound too good to be true?

Has anyone else used M. Ward Assoc.?

The policy you are looking for is called CHUBB Masterpiece.

Best way to go is through a broker such as Cheam Insurance who negotiate the price etc on your behalf and generally get a much better deal than you would yourself. I'm not actually sure whether CHUBB sell directly to the public.

www.cheaminsurance.com/ <--- not affiliated but have used them for years.

Not the cheapest policy but I can from experience guarantee its one of the best there is available for high end cars.

Good luck.

I used Elephant, and also had a claim when with them. Found them to be very good indeed, and have nothing negative to say about them. Call center was ok to deal with when claiming and the person who dealt with my claim wasn't too much of a clown. Also, they were happy for my car to be repaired by my choice of garage (and it was 120 miles from where I live, so transported there and back), and it was all generally as smooth a process as you could hope for.

They did try to levy a betterment charge on me, but I don't hold that against them. I argued my point for a day and they dropped it.

They're owned by Admiral and the garage that did the work had nothing bad to say about them either, and was happy that they be paid directly by them.

Wife has had a (no fault) claim with Elephant and they were actually pretty good. Direct Line also offer to insure two cars with the same policy on a shared NCB basis however I use A Manning for my '3' because I need track day cover and neither of the above offer it.

IN my experience when I took the plunge and had my mid life crisis.... I used confused.com.

Unbelieveably I went to my broker at work (long story) and he suggested he wouldnt be able to beat a market leading quote and suggested we re insure our tractor (v old disco) with Zurich via our original and long standing broker who we had been with for years. The wife (previously a named driver) was given FULL no claims as we had been claim free for ever and we insured the tractor with them.

Confused put me onto More Than.... £487 fully comp etc honouring my own full no claims. 2 for the price of one as far as NCD go.

I am now paying less for two cars (inc the toy) than I was paying last year for the tractor insured in London alone!

Zurich seem very keen to win/keep business if you are a good risk.

Hope this helps?

I've used Confused.com previously and they're very good.

However in this case they're not listing the GT3 only 911 Coupe/Cab/S models, so no help at all.

Only a week to go until the GT3MkII is with me. I have not done track, but expect to and the ring later in the summer. Is there cover available on this per event, with any of the major insurers, or is it via independents as required. I am sure many on here are tracking and have cover ( unless they are brave and take a chance)

Richard,

Give Ann Manning a call - all Porsche club, ATDO and FAE track days are covered FOC on the policy. Thats who I am using for mine.
