Bonnet off Refurb

Of limited interest to you old soaks who've done it all before I guess, but for us new boys who are still keen to get our heads under other peoples bonnets it may be of some interest... (not in the same league as Olav's rebuild, but this is on a shoestring budget...) enjoy (and keep your fingers crossed for me that I can find all of the bits again later

Good pictures and a useful reference. I'm in the middle of a similar exercise, only I've gone a few steps further and removed the suspension and steering. I'll have to post some pics as well.
Only two nasties so far. One of the small pipes on the swirlpot had been squashed nearly flat because the jubilee clip had been wound up too tight, managed to fix that with some gentle annealing and drifting it back to shape. The other is the ARB which has been rubbing on the sump. Just a slight witness mark showing on the bar and no damage to the sump but defnitely needs clearance adjusted. I'll probably shim the engine mounts per the advice on some earlier threads.
Still lots of work to do on the front and I then plan to do the back end and raise the body to clean up the outriggers. Hopefully it will all be done before mid year.

The nearside was a gonner but the offside was not too bad. it has a thick steel section with two tapped holes inside the square tube, one hole is for a bolt which keeps the section in place, the other is for the bonnet hinge bolt (the original slot was pretty bad. I like this arrangement as it allows for a fairly good secure location for the bolt. I will post a picture of the arrangement so you can see what I mean.
looking good mate. we got to give tlc to keep them on the roads, i did the same thing a year ago. trouble was i did not stop and end up. doing a hole rebuild. still in bits now. but what great fun it is.

thats some job you are doing. it looks great, and as you are having so much fun, it seems a pity to stop, so why dont we swap

Yes a farm does help. Also to store them as well. All so got a griff 4.0 pre cat. what will be my next project next year. my dream is to own all of the tvr models. so going to be looking at a Cerbera this year. The s is close to finish. Should be on the road for March. To tell the truth its so easy to do a body off. looks a nightmare and a big job. but all you need is space. And a hand then and again. And a camra. but they so easy to work on when the body off. Get to all the parts. and can do all the jobs that a nightmare when the body on. like clutch. steering bearing. Anything that i could replace i have. I was going to but a cosworth turbo in. but then i thought it won’t be the same. So kept the 2.8. Will be at the s club heaven. hope you going. Should be a great day. James
thank you. i taken the chassis to Adrian Venn @ www.exactly-tvr.demon.co.uk to get it coated. he shot blast it. and hot zinc sparyed it.

Hi Graham, afraid theres not much hope of being finished by then - ha! will be struggling to finish by May the way weekends keep getting spoken for before I even get to them every week. I'm going to give the meet a miss this month - wont look right in a Pajero anyway. Look forward to seeing your pictures. If you and Geoff want to make a trip up to Hexham (8 miles west of...)to see/help/laugh at the work going on, you would be very welcome. weathers supposed to improve for Sunday - enjoy.
