A friend of mine who has more money to play with than me is asking my advice on a semi professional camera to get. Budget arounnd £2000-£3000. I looked into it a bit and the Sony HDR-FX1E seems like a decent one. Does HD and so on.

Anyone any experience with this model? Any good or bad points?

Also, what accessories ideally would be needed if he wants to do alot of outdoor shoting?

Any comments greatly appreciated.

I have had the US version for a over a year now. Great stuff. Fantastic for tripod mount videos. If he plans on using it without a tripod, I highly recommend the add on "stock". It doesn't interfere with anything and can even be left on if you use a tripod.

Your friend should also check out the HDR-FX7 (don't know if they make an E model yet) It includes and HDMI interface and is a bit smaller and lighter than the FX1.
