Hi all,

Not been here for a while cos laptop packed up in December am borrowing a mates to post this request....

I've decided on a desktop replacement, but need some help with screens. I was in a local shop discussing options and the guy had a 19 inch and 20 inch Hewlett Packard widescreen of the same spec for the same price - easy, 20 inch I thought. However the 19 is a gloss screen and the 20 matt. I told the guy how I'd be using the kit for photography and he said that the matt was better cos it meant on screen colours would be closer to those printed. Is he just trying to sell me a screen he wants rid of or does he have a point? Wouldn't a correctly calibrated screen / printer will resolve any colour differences...?

Any opinions on the above or anything else I should look out for, please shout. However please note, I'm into photography, not computers so try not to confuse me with too much tech stuff!!

Thanks in advance,
Longers

If you work in a darkened room with no reflections, the gloss screen looks a lot brighter than the matt finish, my laptop has a crystalbrite 15.4" screen and pictures look amazing but I have to move it aroundto avoid extraneous light from hitting it.
I have a Dell 2405 for working on with my desktop machine and I prefer it for editing and that has a matt screen. I also use a 22" CRT for proofing colours as the LCD/TFT's are very bright (in fact a little too bright)
