I was watching Top Gear t'other day and was watching them throwing a selection of powerful, rear-wheel drive cars about - mainly sideways in big, opposite-lock drifts, when I thought to myself "that looks like bloody good fun, I'd love a day out there with the Cerb".

So the question is - Where the hell is this? Is it open to the public? If not, then are there any alternative locations to have fun in the sand?

Cheers

Would you really want the bottom of your Tiv covered in sand and crap? Can't imagine it will do much good for the intakes either! Think it was the Isle of Man

Sand and crap can be washed off. Can't see it getting in the intakes unless I happened to be following another car about, and the fact that the TiV is RWD should surely mean that the bulk of said crap is thrown up and away from the car, out the back?

Isn't having a powerful RWD beast all about having fun and the occasional bit of provoking?

Is pendine sands still open? Someone down the grapevine said that it may have been closed to public access now?

I also heard that it was now closed to public access. I'm sure I read in a paper about it being the last beach where you could have a burn. Shame really. cry

Yep according to this link www.geocities.com/colinswalesuk/Pendine.html "due to a few irresponsible people, parking on the beach is no longer allowed." That'll be us then!

Brean Beach, between Weston-super-Mare and Burnham-on-Sea used to be open to drive on, although it's kind of weird to get to (you spend a lot of time driving *away* from it), the entry ramp is very steep (OK in a 4x4, but I don't know about a TVR - I got a Porsche 924 Turbo onto it once, but the entry's been steepened up since then) and the sand is very soft and the tide comes in quickly, as the wrecked vehicles washing about in the sea attest to.

They have (had?) sand yacht racing there, too, which is quite exciting.

Does sound and look like great fun.

But sand hitting the car and paintwork at speed = sandbalasting = not good for paintwork

I suppose its OK if its not your car - top gear , the lucky buggers!!
