Any help re my faulty alarm?

Drove 150 miles from Kent to Norfolk in the wet yesterday morning. Parked up as normal. An hour later the alarm goes off. Tried everything to silence it; lock, unlock, open doors, close doors, drive around etc etc but still it carried on. Finally I lifted the front clam and the noise stopped. I closed clam and left the car unlocked for a few hours until time to drive home, then 25 minutes down the A11 the alarm starts off again of its own accord when I'm driving along. Decided to grin and bear it as it was dark and I just wanted to get home. Alarm stopped after 10 minutes and I didn't get any more problems for the rest of the journey which was another hour and a half. Left car unlocked (ie alarm unset) in garage overnight, and all was quiet.
So..... Is is a wet sensor that will go back to normal when dry, or is if somethinf more persistant.
If I try and dry it off with a hairdryer, where under the front clam ro I point it?
Not the first time the car has been driven in the wet but the first time this has happened to me. Why is the alarm so sensitive that something like this should happen? Its England and we get rain.

Thanks for the replies. I can't see a sensor under the front clam either, though the handbook does refers to alarm activation if the doors, boot or bonnet are opened. Quaint terms, boot and bonnet. Weird that the alarm only stopped yesterday when I opened the front.
Cleaned around the sensor near filler cap, but in truth it looked completely clean anyway.
Car now locked and alarmed, so I guess I wait and see.

Nope - just corroded. Once they do the Alarm doesn't sense the opening. J
Are you sure? As the car is only a couple of months old AND they did not work from when the car was delivered albeit I didn't try it until the car was two weeks old I'd be surprised. However, I'll get Moley to check. Maybe thats the payoff for the chip protectors

Probably, without regular cleaning and regular doses of WD40 or similar they'll corrode in weeks or even days in this weather! J

Right, next dry day out comes the emery/switch cleaner/WD40
