Rewiring internal microphone

Hi guys

Got myself a cheapo ebay camcorder. It is a mini DV so has great picture quality but it only has an internal microphone and no jack input.

Would it be possible to wire up a better mic from the bare wires? Dont mind if it looks a mess. I have had a look inside and theres a red black and white wire.

My first thoughts were would there be enough power from the tiny wires to work a larger mic or if i used a powered mike could it damage the circuit?

As i say its a very cheap second hand camcorder so its not really a risk.

For a passive (unpowered) microphone there is still only negligible 'power' travelling along the wires - the 'power' comes purely from the microphone itself, so wire away!
