And before the abuse begins... It's not for me - my Pork has the correct number of pedals..!!

However, a mate has just test driven and fallen for a 996C4S Tip. Being a typical city boy its of course also a convertible

He loves the Tip system but hates the steering wheel buttons and wants to install a paddle shift system. I remember hearing that its possible and that some owners here had done it.

Can anyone point him in the right direction? Any ballpark idea of cost? Likely impact on warranty?

Cheers - Erik

I dare him to come here and ask himself

IMO it would be a lot of work and expense for no actual gain.

Blue neons for the washers would be a far more cost effective customisation, surely?

Cheeky..

I may also be a city boy but I wouldn't be seen dead in a C4S Tip Cabriolet...!! Mine changes gears the old fashioned way.

I'd tell your mate not to bother as the flappy paddle novelty soon wears of and you just stick it in drive cos you cant be arsed.

...because Tip as it is just doesn't deliver the driver satisfaction he demands of a car. With paddles, like those guys in F1 have, it'll all be different; and he'll be really able to get the car shifting proper, like those boys in F1 can do. Because that's what he's after. You know? The Tip as it is is just an auto, but with paddles it is just like one of those F1 gearboxes - you know - like those F1 guys have. That's what he'll be like with his paddles in his C4S Cabriolet Tiptronic. Just like one of those guys from F1. You know? But with just a soupcon of extra mobile phone. Tell him to give Motability a call - they're used to engineering mobility solutions for those with special needs.

*sigh* Someone pass me a valium. Thanks.

No dig at you PorkScratching - you may be asking for a mate, but his request, is - frankly - retarded IMO. Adding paddles to a Tip in an effort to make it 'Racier' would be like wrapping sheep turds in gold foil in an effort to make them Ferrero Rocher.

Mine's been in D precisely three times in the eighteen months I've owned it.

Moving away from the ribbing and mickey taking for a moment! is it actually possible? Has anyone heard of a conversion being done.

I know the tiptronic is an auto box with buttons rather than a manual gearbox with hydraulic acutators and paddles like on the Ferrari F1and BMW SMG systems, but I know the AMDB9 auto had paddles as opposed to buttons.

I doubt the hydraulics are anywhere near the steering column so it is feasible but would just take a bit of cash as some ingeniuity to make it look OEM

Nope, I drive it like a clutchless manual. Always have done. I'm pretty lucky in that I rarely drive in heavy traffic.

It's got to be possible. The Tip buttons just activate an electronic switch, so it shouldn't matter whether it happens on the steering wheel spokes or behind them via paddles. Trouble here, is whether ayone has yet been arsed to actually do this and make a system available for sale. I doubt there'd be much demand amongst the target audience. Also, I'd imagine that there might be TUV-type issues; though there may well not be. For whatever reason, even companies like Ruf and Alpina modify cars with steering wheel mounted buttons instead of paddles, so maybe this is all more complicated than I realise.

not sure about the paddles, but Gemballa steering has just left and right buttons for up and down on each side.

It is definitely possible as I drove one with paddles on a Johnathan Palmer race day at Bedford Aerodrome.

It had been converted by their own mechanics. I don't know what sort of conversion costs are involved but they would be a good place to start asking questions.

FVD do them, round about £600-£700 Sterling, waiting on feedback on one, so will let you know how it goes!

Well...yes. But with extra nuts. I s'pose they get away with it because they take their little wrinkled faecal confections, put them in a wee paper throne, clothe them in gold and put a little paper crown on them. Probably where Posh Spice got the idea when she wondered how she could disguise her general mutton-ness as lamb, though to my eyes, after buying wholesale into the Ferrero Rocher Scool of Fashion, she still looks less attractive than sheep droppings.
