Over the NY break I was down in Cornwall and whilst being rather bored went for a "spirited" drive down to Lands End.
Although it was miserable and wet, the roads were empty, twisty and hilly... and I must say I absolutely LOVED it!!
Imagine - Cornwall shut to the public for 4 hours just for my playtime?!
It was one of those drives that you realise what you've bought and just what a superb toy it really is. I didn't even want for any more power - seems that feeling is reserved to the Nurburgring! The feel as you chuck it through corners and power up hills is just wonderful. The engine making a superb Germanic growling noise of perfection and the grip outstanding. It's that feeling of really bonding with a car that's far more fun than it looks imply. Didn't realise England had such great playable roads... well, it does in the winter!
I love the Cayman S! So much so that I know the 997 Targa will never make me happy (so, nothing to do with you KayC!!). Currently I have absolutely no idea of what I would prefer more than this fantastic, luxurious, chuckable, fun machine!
PS. Lands End is tacky shitsville central. Not that I minded: 2 hours there... "oh"... 2 hours back. :Big smiley face:

Pikey
It was much the same in October. The tourists had long gone, but the roads were warm and sticky... and empty We stayed just outside Bude which was handy for most places. Even went clubbing in Newquay, which was great fun. Where did you stay?
My boss has just bought a house near Rock, so hoping to get down there in June for a week.

Warm & sticky? Ooo, now that'd be interesting! When I was there it was wet & nasty but the Cayman's grip meant the PSM light rarely flashed. Nice!
Stayed in St.Mawes. Quiet with no clubs. I am old these days. Cardigan and slippers for me

One with a convertible top? Now that would be something. Failing that, I'd heartly recommend something with long legs, big boobs and a lusty disposition.
Just kidding. Whatever you drive, it's fantastic to have the odd reminder that there's still a great deal of fun to be had on the public highway once in a while. These opportunities can be few and far between, but once they present themselves, they're like a vital shot in the arm to those of us browbeaten into guilt by scameras, a disapproving public and the general arm-waving and 'think of the children' hysteria that surrounds having a nice car these days.

I completly agree.
Using a car every day in a variety of conditions can make you forget how bloody good they can we point to point.
i have recently changed jobs and can now only use the car at the weekends and to/from the airport. however, my return flight lands in the early hours of the morning so I have a 40 minute blast home along A roads and twisties - bloody hell its a good run......

Does the Cayman s need psm?
Oi - fast barge man - yes it does!
My goal is to get round the ring in under 9 without the PSM light coming on. I know, I know, the answer is to go round slower with the light staying off and build up speed, but I just can't do it (yet)! The light is a great indicator to show you've done something wrong.

You need to come over for a play on the Welsh roads then.
Myself and a friend did that in late Summer '06. Definitely something I'll do again, as I think there were one or two people in Middle and Western Wales that didn't quite synchronise with the mexican wave of irritation and general harumph that accompanied our passing. Like the Irish, the Welsh are quite comical when they get annoyed, probably more so as there's less thumping.
Edit - Pikey - the PSM light is not there to show you when you've done something wrong. It's a 'Round of Applause' light. Think of it like those things you see in TV studios to cue applause. Every time it winks at you, someone somewhere is clapping and cheering you on. If they're not, then I am. Bloody PSM. It's fer poofs.
