Hi everyone,
It's my first posting on the porsche forum so I apologise if this topic has been covered before
Anyway, I got quite a shock today when I removed the wing liner from both front wingseekcry

The wing support bar had rotted away completely on both sides and the resulting rust debris was just lying on the wing bracket mounting rusting away!!!!
I was really lucky to spot this and to remove all the debris/rust etc, etc, etc.
I used some 13mm copper tubing to fabricate new wing support bars.

I hope I am not being alarmist but mine is a 1993 model C2 964, one of the last to be built.
I have owned the car for over 2 years and this is the first time I looked behind the front wing liners!!!!

If you have'nt yet looked behind the wing liners then maybe now is a good time to do so!
I'm sure glad I did

Yep - all the supports on mine (1990 C2) needed replacing, don't forget the ones on the back..........

If you look through the back wheel arches looking through to the rear you should be able to see them spanning the gap.........

If you can't see them they probably have departed, mine had.

dont worry about it they do, they are only painted steel and the paint flakes off and the steel rots, the rear ones will prob be worst due to heat, mine hadn't rotted but had perforated and then cracked so they welded up pretty well and then a good thick coat of black smoothrite and they will last another 13 years!

Its worth checking the rear bumper crash bar mounts too, one of mine had dissolved so I put a new one on, no point repairing an item like that.

yep, the ones on my C2 had disolved from the salt and the amount of heat cycles they go through

bit annoying that they cost £80 + VAT

Bearing in mind that most 1993 cars have rotted away totally by now...

Don't use copper, there will be massive electrolytic corrosion with the steel and the zinc.

I don't think so Not Porsches anyway! My C2 964 has certainly not rotted away!!!
My 1981, 911SC was perfectly sound when I sold it in July 2006.

Its only these daft bits that suffer, the shells, suspension etc are still like new on my car.

I might have one or 2 spare bumper supports if needed.
