Hi, can anyone recomend a good indie service centre in the midlands area?
Hartech sound great but are just a bit far. P.C.T. are pretty close as are Shirleys but dont know much about any of these. Any help welcome.
Thanks Simon.

I have used PCT on a regular basis. They are very competent but are hideously expensive. Labour rate is £68 +vat per hour. The guys are all friendly and know their business. Good customer service, they smile when they hand you the bill. Absolutely no complaints other than the cost.

The other independent you mention based at Shirley's in Meriden is Martin Brown. He's a one man show and operates as PorscheTec. I've heard some very good things about him and understand he is a top notch mechanic. His rates are very good as a result of it being a samll operation. The flipside is that he can be difficult to get hold of and pin down. I've tried to get a fixed quote from him but couldn't get a response despite visiting him twice. In the end I gave up and went to PCT. Give him a go but you may need to be persistent.

The other option is Porsche Shop in Halesowen. Their menu pricing is very competitive and I've heard good things about the workshop from PCGB members. It's probably where I will go next.

Try PH Sportscars at Shardlow near J24 of M1/ Donington Park. They know there stuff and are very good labour rates (£35 per hour, i think). I've used them for my 944 for years although they work on more Boxsters and 911s these days.

AMB Porsche at Mapperley, Nottm. Adrian is a PCGB chap who has looked after lots of our Regional members cars from 924's to 964RS to 500bhp Gemballa specials.

Thanks for advice guys. P.C.T. is the closest to me so I think I'll try first them first, but at least I have a few options now.

Actually, i've recently heard good things about Nottingham OPC service dept. Apparently, one of the fews OPCs that still respect the air-cooled vehicles.
Obviously not the cheapest though...

Yes agree Adrian at AMB, fantastic and really knows his stuff, infact the local OPC send problems to him as they cannot always sort (on older vehicles)
Also Ben at Formulae Fuchs in Owlerton Notts
good luck

i have used Notts OPC several times and it is local to me. The only OPC i have used that have not *ucked up something and the price is what was agreed.

Just high for dumping oil and having a quick nosey round

I must admit that i can also compliment the Nottingham OPC. I recently bought a 944 Turbo and the insurance company required a certificate or letter to state that the immobiliser was working. After much phoning round I eventually tried the OPC and dreaded the bill. Instead I was told that they would check it for free in 10 mins. Great. It gets better - I was told from a computer check that the car had never had a recall job on it, a check and possible replacement of a steering arm, I think.

I arranged for the work to be donme at their expense, they collected and returned the car from my home and carried out a 4 wheel steering geometry check......they even valeted the car. Excellent.

I pass Shirleys quite often and there always seems to be a large amount of cars being serviced or repaired there all models from young to old. When I had a newer model Porsches I used OPC's but with an older car it doesn't seem worth it, plus most of them dont know about air cooled stuff so you are paying them £100 per hour to learn how to do a job.
Thanks again for all feedback, I've a good idea who to trust locally now.

Chris is a bit of a hidden treasure. Had my car for 6 yrs and I've only just realised there's an air-cooled Porsche specialist just down the road from where I live!! Just taken my car in this morning for the first time. The guy seems very down to earth and friendly, and there are a number of real beauties in the garage! Silver 356, anyone here?
